In our country, people submit their bodies to starvation for >the right to live. Cell by cell, they are dying, their bodies are wasting >away. These demands are acceptable to everybody. Were our children not >massacred in Ulucanlar because they wanted an extra ward? The prisons are >luxury for some people who are served heroin on trays, but for our sons and >daughters they are places from which their dead and blood-soaked bodies are >carried out on stretchers. The experience of the 1996 Death Fast teaches us that every day, >every minute does irreversible damage to the prisoners' bodies. As we know, >every day they will lose more of their eyesight, hearing and we know that >their bodies will refuse to take any more water. Today their bodies accept >water and sugar and it helps them stand on their feet, but tomorrow their >bodies will refuse to take it in any more. They all knew this risk and took >this risk. Day by day they will notice their bodies are failing and their >eyesight will become worse and their sense of hearing will deteriorate.
