DHKP-C is growing into a major threat

The terrorist organization has suddenly risen into the limelight and
promises to fill the vacuum of the PKK but with an urban twist

Once upon a time, the late President Turgut Ozal took the PKK terrorist
group lightly disregarding it as a handful of bandits... That mentality
allowed the PKK to flourish into a major threat, not only to the personal
safety of the citizens of the Turkish Republic but even to the territorial
integrity of our country...

After years of bloodbath in Southeastern Turkey and the loss of tens of
billions of dollars, the PKK was defeated by our security forces and today
has been cut down to a manageable size.

At the time those who disregarded the PKK unfortunately missed the point
that the PKK did not flourish into a major terrorist threat on its own.
The conditions in Eastern and Southeastern Turkey were ripe to allow the
PKK to make so much headway. Some of the underprivileged and impoverished
people of the region were only more than ready to help the PKK.

Now the Turkish state has realized past mistakes and there is now talk of
winning back these people...

The PKK was always a rural threat and could not make an impact in the
cities. Its efforts to infiltrate major cities failed.

With the PKK losing, we unfortunately see the rise of the left-wing
Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) terrorist group
which is active in major cities with special emphasis on Istanbul...

Why Istanbul? Besides housing a handful of rich families and a degenerate
social elite, Istanbul is also the home of millions of families who have
immigrated to this city with high hopes but who have been trapped with
poverty and hardships. It is the breeding ground of dissatisfaction and
revolt.

We see that the slum areas of Istanbul have become a boiling pot with the
growing injustices in our society and we also observe that the left-wing
terrorist groups with special emphasis on the DHKP-C are effectively
exploiting this.

The authorities can battle the DHKP-C but they will never achieve outright
success as long as they do not wipe out the growing social and economic
imbalances in Turkey.

The people see how the wealth of the country is being plundered by a
handful of crooks while the nation is being asked to make sacrifices. Did
anyone expect this to last forever. Didn't they realize that sooner or
later all this would explode into violence?

You can use Turkish nationalism against Kurdish nationalism and thus create
a general consensus in Turkey to battle separatist terrorism. But can you
rally support against a terrorist group which flourishes on the injustices
which the masses are subjected to?
