Rodong Sinmun in a signed article describes this declaration as a landmark of the reunification of the country in the 21st century as it clarifies the fundamental principle and way of realising it. The article goes on: The three principles of national reunification are enshrined in the declaration. The principle of independence is the starting point in the solution of the fundamental problem related to the destiny of the country and the nation and the movement for national reunification, and the principle of peaceful reunification is the basic way of solving the issue of reunification in conformity with the unanimous desire of all the compatriots and peace-loving people around the world. The principle of the great national unity is an action program to firmly unite all the Koreans as one under the banner of national reunification. The declaration also reflects the demands and interests of the Korean nation. The declaration enables the north and south to confidently advance toward reunification with a common action program for national reunification as it indicates the way of achieving reunification by federal formula on the basis of the common points of the north-proposed low-level federation and the south-proposed confederation. A more signal advance will be made in the movement for national reunification when all the Koreans implement the declaration to the letter. Minju Joson in a signed article says that the great vitality of the declaration has been displayed since its publication. The article calls for putting an end to the anti-national and anti-reunification acts contrary to the spirit of the declaration and frustrating all attempts harmful to its implementation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Japan Defence Agency chief's projected U.S. junket under fire Pyongyang, January 9 (KCNA) -- It was reported that director general of the Japan Defence Agency Saito would visit the United States in the latter half of January right after the emergence of a new administration there. Saito would reportedly meet Rumsfeld, U.S. Secretary of Defense designate, to reaffirm "importance" of the "Japan-U.S. Security System". In this regard Rodong Sinmun today in a signed commentary says: The purpose of his tour of the united states is to beef up aggression forces with the backing of the United States and escalate the anti-DPRK hostile policy and moves to stifle it. The Japanese reactionaries have been keen on the moves for reinvasion under the absurd pretexts of the DPRK's "nuclear and missile threat" and "case of unidentified ship". It is clear that they are going to intensify their adventurous military maneuvers for overseas invasion in the new century, too, under the pretext of "threat" from the DPRK. They are getting more frantic in their moves to stifle the DPRK from the outset of the year, going against the trend of the times. However, this is an anachronistic daydream. Last year, the imperialists' moves for "globalization" were strongly condemned by the world people as never before, the article says, and goes on: The struggle against "globalization" was characterised by the expansion of the struggle to many countries. The struggle was waged not only in almost all regions and countries including Asia, Africa and Latin America but also in western countries in 2000. Developing countries not only brought to light the harmfulness of "globalization" but also found a right methodology for overcoming its aftermath and waged a vigorous struggle to put it into practice. They had many bilateral and multilateral meetings and exchanged views to find ways of providing against "globalization". The only way they found was to develop south-south cooperation with collective self-reliance and increase their own competitiveness.
