The announcement came after the new Belgrade government joined the OSCE late last year, eight years after the old Yugoslav regime was suspended due to its role in the war in Bosnia-Hercegovina. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said the decision had been taken during the council's weekly meeting in Vienna following an invitation from the Yugoslav government. The mission will work for "the protection of human rights and minorities, and media development" in Yugoslavia, the statement read. It will also join forces with the UN commission for refugees over the logistics of the return of refugees displaced during the conflicts of recent years to their homes.
