Press Release

All the peoples of the Balkans in general and Serb people in particular,
are exposed to the strong pressures of the hegemonistic policies of the
super power whose objective certainly is suffocation of the freedom, of
independence and limiting of the sovereignty of these peoples. This was
the joint assessment after the to-days talks, expressed by the Chairman
of the Socialist Party of Serbia Mr. Slobodan Milosevic and the
secretary-general of the Communist party of Greece Ms. Aleka Papariga.

Serb and Greek peoples are tied with strong, historically founded
friendship, mutual conciseness of joint interests as well as deep mutual
understanding, especially regarding experiences in the struggle to
achieve its national interests. Positions of the Socialist Party of
Serbia and the Communist Party of Greece are identical, particularly in
regard of main causes of instability in our region. Two parties are
advocating that Balkans countries autonomously decide on their future
and to co-operate on the basis of equality, openness and mutual esteem
of specific and joint interests.

Vice-chairmen of the Head Committee of SPS Mr. Milan Milutinovic and Mr.
Zivadin Jovanovic also took part at the talks .

Press Release

It is in the interest of the people of the Balkans that this region
becomes a zone of peace and co-operation, without (presence) of foreign
troops and nuclear weapons - was the gist of the message of the
participants of the to-day's sessions of the Council for international
Co-operation of the Socialist Party of Serbia, which was addressed by
Ms. Aleka Papariga, secretary-general of the Communist Party of Greece.

Leader of the Greek communists, third largest parliamentarian party in
that country, condemned NATO policies at the Balkans, aggression against
FR of Yugoslavia, use of depleted uranium ammunitions, support for
separatism and terrorism that is endangering all the peoples and
countries at the Balkans. She also pointed to the cover-up of
humanitarian and environmental catastrophe caused by NATO aggression, by
use of forbidden weapons as well as to the attempts to take leaders of
the resistance for protection of freedom to NATO Tribunal, that are all
witnessing to the effort to evade own responsibility for crimes and to
pronounce victims of aggression as culprits.

Pointing out that the second anniversary of the NATO aggression is
approaching, Papariga said that so far many hidden facts on real
objectives and long-term consequences of NATO aggression have surfaced,
that many European countries are overwhelmed with the panic due to the
use of depleted uranium ammunitions and that all the progressive and
patriotic forces at the Balkans should more decisively and in a much
more organised manner act on withdrawal of NATO from this region.

In the course of discussion, gratitude was expressed to the Greek people
for its moral, political and humanitarian support in the course and
after the NATO aggression and also pointed out that strategy of
hegemonism and domination continues by the other means, that the peoples
of the Balkans are being limited in their right to autonomously decide
on their own development, co-operation and the protection of the
national interest.

Members of the Council pointed out that collection and analyses of the
data regarding the use of depleted uranium ammunitions, organised
protection of the population and the environment and elimination of
consequences are state and national issue of highest priority.

It was suggested to establish a permanent inter-departmental body to
co-ordinate and unify all the activities at the domestic and
international fields, to propose appropriate initiatives and to mobilise
international sources of finance necessary for research and elimination
of the effects of bombing. The importance of initialisation of the
resolutions of the Security Council to put under international control
all the stocks of the depleted uranium ammunitions with the aim of their
destruction was emphasised as well as the ban on further production of
such weapons.
