Our Party vehemently condemns the criminal and wanton aggressive act of the
British government and US imperialism in its renewed bombing of Baghdad. The
massive air strikes of Friday, February 16, constitute a grave escalation in
the bombing and air strikes against Iraq which have been carried on by
Britain and the US on a constant basis against the sovereign country of Iraq
for many years. Together with the genocidal sanctions directed against the
Iraqi people, these actions constitute a crime against humanity.

This criminal aggression comes as a warning by the US imperialist
administration of George W Bush that it is intending to step up its military
aggression against any and every country that dares not to submit to the US
dictate. It is a declaration that the US imperialist aims are to be pursued
by force, as well as other means. It is a declaration that for the
imperialist new world order, international legality and the interests of the
people count as nothing.

With this criminal aggression, the British government of Tony Blair has also
nailed its rotten colours to the mast, demonstrating that not only is it
prepared to back the Bush policy of aggression, but that it too acts as an
international aggressor. The justifications of the Blair government barely
attempt to excuse the air strikes with the rhetoric of keeping the so-called
dictator Saddam Hussein in his place. According to the Blair government, the
bombing of the Iraqi capital were a "proportionate response" to what is
actually nothing more than the act of self-defence of Iraq against the
patrolling of the so-called "no-fly zones" which have absolutely no
legitimacy in international law. Tens of thousands of bombs and missiles
have been rained down on Iraq since December 1998. It is utterly condemnable
that the government has adopted lock, stock and barrel the language and
logic of international gangsterism and imperialism.

This aggression is totally bereft of "humanitarian" motivation. It is the
pursuit of the aims of US imperialism and the British government by naked
aggression. It has further isolated the US and Britain themselves as pariah
states in the international community. It has aroused massive and widespread
opposition from peoples and governments world-wide.

Our Party states its utmost condemnation of this latest criminal act of
aggression against the sovereign state of Iraq by the British government and
US imperialism. Our voice is raised, as the voice of the British working
class and people, in opposing such outrageous actions as the bombing and the
sanctions as attempts to force a whole people into submission and bomb a
whole country out of existence. The peoples of the world will never submit
to such intervention through force, and the renewed opposition of the world'
s people will doom such imperialist terrorism. As this aggressive face of
"globalisation" further reveals itself, so do the justifications for such
actions on "humanitarian" or "moral" grounds become further exposed.
