Maoists call for interim government
========================
Kathmandu, 26 February: Maoists have called for an interim government and a
people's constitution to resolve the present "grave political crisis", a
statement released by the underground party said. The statement also adds
that a meeting of political parties, organisations and representatives of
the people should elect the interim government. The party also elected
Prachanda, former general secretary, to the powerful post of chairman at an
undisclosed date and place after amending the party constitution. The party'
s second national convention decided to push for a central people's
government by strengthening local bases, a statement signed by Prachanda
said. The rebels have made considerable inroads especially in west Nepal in
their drive to establish a communist state in the last five years.


Four policemen injured in ambush
=======================
Kathmandu, 26 February: Four policemen were injured in an ambush laid by
Maoists at a village in Lamjung district in west Nepal Sunday night but no
immediate casualties were reported in another exchange of gunfire between
rebels and police at a village in Jajarkot this week, official reports said.


Maoists Attack M.P's
===============
Kathmandu, Feb.23: Maoists Thursday night attacked homes of two members of
parliament from Dandeldhura district and decamped with weapons and cash,
Radio Nepal said quoting local officials.

The insurgents attacked homes of N.P. Saud and Khem Raj Mayalu who were
elected to the House of Representatives on tickets of the Nepali Congress
party.

The rebels have mainly targeted police and activists of the Nepali Congress
in their attacks.  Maoists have scaled up their attacks coinciding with
the fifth anniversary of what they call a people's war on February 12 to
establish a communist state in the kingdom.

The insurgency has claimed more than 1500 lives
