CUBAN COMMUNIST PARTY VISITS LAOS VIENTIANE, APRIL 24 (KPL) A delegation from the Communist Party of Cuba led by Jorge Luis Sierra, Politburo member of the Party Central Committee arrived here yesterday morning for a two day working visit to Laos. Greeting the delegation at Wattay International Airport was Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh, Head of the Party Central Committee Office. A meeting to exchange views on co-operation was held on the same day at the Party Central Committee Office, where an agreement on co-operation between the two parties was signed. On April 24, the delegation will take part in a celebration to mark the 40th anniversary of the victory of the Cuban people in the Playa Giron Battle, known in the west as the Bay of Pigs Invasion./. **** LAO PRESIDENT BACK FROM CPV NINTH CONGRESS �VIENTIANE, APRIL 24 (KPL). A high ranking delegation of the republic headed by its President, Khamtay Siphadonh arrived here yesterday ending his participation in the Ninth Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) held from April 19 to 22 in Hanoi. �While attending the congress, the President met with heads of State and government of Vietnam yesterday morning including new Secretary General of the CPC' s Central Committee Nong Duc Manh. �The two heads of State and government evaluated their friendly relations and cooperation. �The Lao President showed great appreciation of the achievements of the CPV' s Ninth Congress and wished the Party, the State and the people of Vietnam greater success in the cause of renovating the country. �In his keynote address to the Congress, the President highlighted the tremendous accomplishments of the Vietnamese people under the guidance of CPV over last 15 years. �The President also met with delegations from the Communist Party of China, the People' s Party of Cambodia, the Communist Party of Cuba, and the Workers' s Party of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea./. **** LAO GREETINGS FOR NEW CPV GENERAL SECRETARY NONG DUC MANH VIENTIANE, April 24 (KPL) Chairman of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Khamtay Siphandon has sent a message of congratulations to newly-elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nong Duc Manh. In his message, Chairman Siphandon said Nong Duc Manh's election as General Secretary of the CPV showed the Party's confidence in his ability and experience. The Lao Party leader also said he believed the Vietnamese people under the leadership of the CPV and General Secretary Manh would obtain greater achievements in the renovation, industrialisation and modernisation. It would achieve the goal of a prosperous people, a strong country, and an equitable, democratic and civilised society, thus contributing to the common struggle for peace, national independence, democracy and social progress. The Lao leader said that this new appointment was good for friendship, co-operation and development in the region and the world. Nong Duc Manh yesterday morning, April 23, received Khamtay Siphandon, who is in Vietnam attending the recently concluded Ninth National CPV Congress. The Vietnamese leader expressed his belief that the special friendship and solidarity between the Parties and peoples of Vietnam and Laos would be consolidated.
