Warsaw, 25 April: The first tenders for the construction of NATO-compatible security facilities in Poland (airfields, seaports, fuel depots) will open at the end of this year, the Ministry of National Defense infrastructure department head, Gen Roman Kloc, announced on Wednesday [25 April] following a sitting in Warsaw of NATO's Infrastructure Committee. The 650m dollars NATO Security Infrastructure Program for Poland will last eight years and will cover the modernization of seven airfields, two harbors and five fuel depots. Also built will be a long-range radar base and an air command system. The objects will allow Poland to make proper use of NATO assistance. The tender for the projects will be open to Polish and foreign firms. Kloc said that Poland has asked for leniency towards Polish companies taking part in the tender in view of the country's high unemployment rate.
