Polish Tenders Start for NATO Infrastructure Program

Apr 26, 2001 -- (BBC Monitoring) Text of report in
English by Polish news agency PAP.

Warsaw, 25 April: The first tenders for the
construction of NATO-compatible security facilities in
Poland (airfields, seaports, fuel depots) will open at
the end of this year, the Ministry of National Defense
infrastructure department head, Gen Roman Kloc,
announced on Wednesday [25 April] following a sitting
in Warsaw of NATO's Infrastructure Committee.

The 650m dollars NATO Security Infrastructure Program
for Poland will last eight years and will cover the
modernization of seven airfields, two harbors and five
fuel depots. Also built will be a long-range radar
base and an air command system. The objects will allow
Poland to make proper use of NATO assistance.

The tender for the projects will be open to Polish and
foreign firms. Kloc said that Poland has asked for
leniency towards Polish companies taking part in the
tender in view of the country's high unemployment
rate.
