Kim Jong Il sees light comedy
Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -Leader Kim Jong Il together with
servicemen, appreciated a light comedy "May Youth Shine" performed by
artistes of the Korean Film Studio at the Mansudae Art Theatre on Saturday.
Accompanying him were secretaries Kim Kuk Thae and Choe Thae Bok, director
of the information and instruction department Jong Ha Chol and director of
the history institute Kang Sok Sung, of the WPK Central Committee, minister
of culture Kang Nung Su, editor-in-chief of the Rodong Sinmun Choe Chil Nam,
director general of the KCNA Kim Ki Ryong, chairman of the Radio and TV
Broadcasting Committee Cha Sung Su, first vice department directors of the
WPK Central Committee Ri Yong Chol, Jang Song Thaek and Ju Kyu Chang, and
KPA generals Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong.
The comedy, produced by creators and artistes of the Korean Film Studio,
tells about the heroic struggle through which members of the youth shock
brigade, intensely loyal to the cause of the WPK, successfully built the
youth hero motorway in the period of trials when the country was hard
pressed for everything.
After seeing the performance, Kim Jong Il said that young Koreans
wrought a miracle by building such a gigantic edifice of eternal value with
empty hands. It is our high pride to have such excellent youth with great
mental power, he stressed.
He also noted that creators and artistes of the Korean Film Studio have
produced many films of high ideological and artistic value over the past
years, true to the party's line and policy on the Juche-oriented literature
and art, thus educating the party members and other working people in the
revolutionary idea and strongly encouraging them in the revolution and
construction. And he expressed the expectation and belief that they would
bring about a continued upswing in the production of revolutionary films.

Statement of spokesman for GFTUK central committee
Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- A May Day pro-reunification meeting of
workers from the north and the south of Korea, the first of its kind since
the division of the country, is slated to be held on Mt. Kumgang. But, the
South Korean authorities have groundlessly refused to allow Ri Kyu Jae,
vice-chairman of the South Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and
concurrently chairman of its reunification committee to participate in the
meeting as a head of the south side's delegation. In this regard, a
spokesman for the central committee of the General Federation of Trade
Unions of Korea released a statement on Saturday.
 The statement said:
Ri Kyu Jae has stood in the van of the reunification movement. But the
South Korean authorities' refusal came at a time when the whole world hopes
that a new phase will be opened for Korea's reunification through an early
implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration.
This throws an obstacle to the successful opening of the meeting and
challenges the just movement of all the workers and pro-reunification
patriots in the south to implement the joint declaration.
The GFTUK central committee strongly denounces this unjustifiable
behavior as an unpardonable act intended to lay a hurdle in the way of the
righteous struggle of all the workers in the north and the south for
national reunification under the banner of the joint declaration and put the
brake on its impementation.
The South Korean authorities are again groundlessly accusing him of
violating the "National Security Law". This is evidently intended to foil
the meeting.
They should withdraw the unreasonable refusal and provide all conditions
for all the delegates of the south side to attend the meeting for supporting
and implementing the joint declaration, unhindered.

Withdrawal of U.S. troops from South Korea, prerequisite for disarmament
Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) --Rrodong Sinmun today carries a signed
article titled "withdrawal of the U.S. troops from South Korea, prerequisite
for disarmament on the Korean peninsula." It is a brigandish demand that the
present U.S. ruling quarters are raising the issue of "reduction of
conventional weapons" in the DPRK as a pending problem between the DPRK and
the U.S., the article says, and goes on:
Our stand on disarmament on the Korean peninsula is clear.
The U.S. troop pullout is prerequisite for disarmament on the Korean
peninsula. It is our stand that the north and the south of Korea should
materialise disarmament in the process of going toward reunification,
providing that the U.S. troops withdraw from South Korea.
Only after the U.S. imperialist aggression troops, the prime mover of
war against the north threatening the security of the nation and the peace
of the country, withdraw from South Korea, can disarmament in the north and
the south be brought up for discussion.
The U.S. troops stationed in South Korea, forces for northward invasion,
are the root cause which sparks arms race and brings the danger of war in
the Korean peninsula.
Now South Korea has become a powder magazine of the most dangerous
nuclear war. The DPRK has been exposed to constant threat of aggression due
to the U.S. imperialists policy of aggression on Korea and its moves to
ignite a war.
Recently, the Bush administration's hegemonism and hostile policy toward
the DPRK bring the aggressive nature of the U.S. troops stationed in South
Korea into bolder relief and renders the situation more dangerous.
For disarmament on the Korean peninsula the U.S. troops, the root cause
of aggression and war, should withdraw from South Korea and the U.S. policy
of aggression on Korea should be stopped.
The U.S. brigandish demand for "reduction of conventional weapons" in
the DPRK can never go down with us.
If the U.S. is really interested in disarmament on the Korean peninsula,
first of all, it should pull its aggression troops out of South Korea. Then
the disarmament of the Korean peninsula will come true of itself.

DPRK high-ranking military delegation visits Lenin's Mausoleum
Moscow, April 28 (KCNA) -- The DPRK high-ranking military delegation
led by Kim Il Chol, vice-chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission
and minister of the People's Armed Forces, on a visit to Russia, laid a
wreath before the Mausoleum of Lenin at the red square of Moscow on April
28. Present there were members of the delegation, ambassador Pak Ui Chun and
the military attache of the DPRK embassy in Moscow.
They placed before the mausoleum a wreath in the name of the delegation
and paid a moment's silent tribute to Lenin.
Then they looked round the mausoleum.
On April 27 the delegation visited the Unknown Soldiers' Tomb at the
Kremlin Wall to lay a wreath.

Meeting of youth and students for reunification held in S. Korea
Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- A meeting of the south side was
reportedly held at Hongik University in Seoul on April 5 with an attendance

and students at home and abroad vowing to make this year a year of opening
the door of the independent reunification of the Korean nation". At the
meeting, vice-chairmen of the south headquarters of the National Alliance of
Youth and Students for the Country's Reunification (Pomchonghakryon) read
out the exchanged written speeches of the three parties -- the overseas
headquarters, the north headquarters and the south headquarters of
Pomchonghakryon.
The speeches referred to the significance of the June 15 North-South
Joint Declaration, and called for adorning the "June 15-August 15 period for
promoting the movement for national reunification" as the 60 days of change
in the Pomchonghakryon movement as well as of nationwide reunification
movement of north, south and overseas Korean youth and students.
They expressed the steadfast will and determination to achieve firm
solidarity under the banner of the joint declaration, disregarding ideology,
political view and the past career.

Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- A 2001 meeting of the central committee
of the south headquarters of Pomchonghakryon (National Alliance of Youth and
Students for the Country's Reunification) was reportedly held at Hongik
University of South Korea on April 7. A report was made there before the
amended regulations of the headquarters were discussed and approved.
Speakers stressed the need for the members of the central committee to
take the lead in strengthening and expanding the organization. and they
expressed the determination to implement the June 15 North-South Joint
Declaration and thus make this year a year of opening the door of the
independent reunification of the Korean nation.
