BBC News Online, 01/05/01 Glasgow sees May Day protest ====================== About 400 demonstrators gathered in Glasgow on Tuesday for an anti- capitalism protest in the city centre. The demonstration was peaceful and no arrests were reported by police as children as young as three joined the march which brought traffic to a standstill at times and featured banners declaring "May Day, Liberty, Equality, Solidarity". After gathering in Buchanan Street, one of Glasgow's main shopping streets, the marchers made their way to George Square, home of Glasgow City Council's headquarters in City Chambers. Once there protesters climbed walls on either side of the building and unfurled banners, with others taking to the nearby Cenotaph. Elsewhere the demonstration resembled a street carnival with a number of people wearing elaborate costumes and face masks. To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
