Autographs of President Ho Chi Minh exhibited
An exhibition entitled 'Ho Chi Minh Thought and the Cause of National
Renovation' was opened at the Hanoi-based Ho Chi Minh Museum on April 30.
The exhibition features 300 images, materials and objects reflecting the
thoughts and morality of President Ho Chi Minh and the achievements recorded
after 15 years of national renovation and the success of the Ninth National
Party Congress.
The autographs of President Ho Chi Minh in more than 50 materials are also
on display.
The exhibition will last until May 19, President Ho Chi Minh's birthday.

South Vietnam's Liberation, May Day marked
Cultural activities mark liberation day in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Public meetings and cultural activities have been held throughout the
country in recent days to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the liberation
of south Vietnam on April 30 and the 115th anniversary of International
Labour Day on May 1st .
A meeting to mark the events was held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30.
Addressing the meeting, chairman of the district One's People's Council
affirmed "Vietnamese people should do our utmost to deserve contributions
made by our beloved Uncle Ho, war martyrs and predecessors who devoted their
whole life to struggle for the national liberation. We, therefore, should
promote the national tradition and do our best to fight against poverty and
backwardness and strengthen our country's influence in the highly
competitive environment of the world."
In the same evening, thousands of young people took part in a gala to
celebrate the Victory Day.
On the occasion, the Cinematography Department of the Ministry of Culture
and Information organised a Vietnamese film show in Hanoi and many other
provinces.
Many other cultural and sport activities were held in the capital city. The
Confederation of Labour and the Department of Physical Education and Sport
of Hanoi opened a badminton tournament for workers and a cycling tour for
the elderly in the city.
Public meetings to mark the events were held in many other cities and
provinces and organisations while many economic units have made achievements
to welcome the event.

Vice president thanks Cuban people for support
Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh of Vietnam has expressed thanks for Cuban
people's support for Vietnam's past struggle for national reunification
before more than 500 Cuban workers.
She was addressing a meeting held at a footwear factory in Havana, Cuba,
named after Vietnam's anti-American hero Nguyen Van Troi to mark Southern
Vietnam's liberation day on April 30, 1975.
The Vice President highlighted the important contributions by the world
people, including Cubans, to Vietnam's historic triumph. She quoted Cuban
President Fidel Castro as saying "With Vietnam, the Cuban people are ready
to share even their blood."
She took that opportunity to reiterate Vietnam's unchangeable solidarity
with and support for the Cuban people and strongly demanded the United
States end its embargo against Cuba.
In return, Secretary General of the Cuban Women's Union and President of the
Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association recalled the great festivities
environment seen all over Cuba 26 years ago when the news of Vietnam's final
victory spread to the Western Hemisphere country.
She also expressed admiration to Vietnam's great success in its current
national development and reaffirmed Cuba's unbreakable solidarity with
Vietnam.
The meeting was also attended by Member of the Cuban Communist Party Central
Committee Melba Hernandez and President of the Cuban Women's Union Viema

Pakistan's chief executive to visit Vietnam
Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Lieutenant General
Pervez Musharraf will pay an official visit to Vietnam from May 3-5.
A communique released by the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry on April 29 adds
that the visit will be made at the invitation of Vietnam's Prime Minister
Phan Van Khai.

ASEAN foreign ministers meet in Myanmar
Foreign Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held
a meeting in Yangon, Myanmar, on April 30 under the chairmanship of
Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien.
The ministers exchanged views on international and regional issues of common
concern, reviewed and discussed measures to effectively carry out decisions
of the fourth informal ASEAN meeting in Singapore in November last year,
focusing on Inter-ASEAN Initiative, narrowing of the development gap,
support for new members of ASEAN and development of human resources and
information technology.
The ministers also exchanged views on recommendations of ASEAN Eminent
Persons' Group with a view to building ASEAN into a stable, prosperous,
co-operative and inter-regional community of nations as well as on
co-operation between ASEAN and dialogue partners including China, Japan and
the Republic of Korea (RoK).
Minister Nguyen Dy Nien, in his capacity as President of the ASEAN Standing
Committee (ASC) and host of the 34th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting as well as
the eighth ASEAN Regional Forum and the conference with ASEAN dialogue
countries which are scheduled to be held in Hanoi in July, spoke of
Vietnam's preparations for these meetings.
ASEAN Foreign Ministers agreed that at the coming 34th Ministerial Meeting,
ASEAN will issue a Hanoi Joint Declaration on ASEAN's joint efforts in
narrowing the development gap for a dynamic and sustainable growth.
The ministers reviewed the implementation of the Hanoi Plan of Action (HPA)
over the past three years and put forth options to accelerate the HPA and
submit it to the ASEAN summit in Brunei in November.
During his meeting with General Than Shwe, President of the Myanmar Peace
and Development Council, Minister Nien highly valued the achievements gained
by the Myanmar Government and people. He assured General Than Shwe of
ASEAN's continuation to unite and co-operate with and support the Myanmar
Government in building a peaceful, stable and prosperous country.
On the sideline of the meeting, Minister Nien met on separate occasions with
Vice President and Foreign Minister of the Philippines T. P. Guygona and
Foreign Minister of Myanmar Uyn An to discuss bilateral co-operation and
international and regional issues of common concern. (VNA)

Foreigners praise Vietnam's victory in April 1975
Foreign delegates at the freshly-ended Ninth National Congress of the
Communist Party of Vietnam, CPV, have brought about the significance of
Vietnam's resound victory over the USA in April 1975.
Chairman of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Khamtay Siphandon described
the Vietnam's world-renowned win over the USA to liberate the south and
reunify the nation on April 30, 1975 as the completion of a noble task of
the Ho Chi Minh era. That victory, he said, will forever engrave on the
minds of justice lovers all over the world.
Head of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, CPBV, Central
Committee's InternationalRelations Department, Hassan Charfo said: "Almost
exactly 26 years ago the famous Ho Chi Minh offensive and the people's
uprising culminated in the liberation of the southern part of Vietnam. This
brought an victorious end to the most difficult and renowned patriotic war
in the history of Vietnam."
He added: "It was the Vietnamese people's heroic struggle under leadership
of the CPV defeated the world's aggressive forces led by the USA.
International solidarity and support by progressive forces all over the
world for the Vietnamese people's struggle were unforgettable lessons to the
aggressors."
Indian National Congress (I) Party representative B R Bhagat expressed
respects for the steps of rapid development of Vietnam toward a bright
future.
He recalled the resound triumph of the Vietnamese people and armed forces,
saying "The Indian people are proud to remember their joys and excitement
filled in Indian streets on that significant day of April 26 years ago when
Vietnamese soldiers advanced to Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) to complete
their cause of liberating the south for national reunification."
South African Communist Party, SACP, Central Committee member Smiso
Nkwanyana has expressed his admiration for Vietnam's victory over the USA 26
years ago. He said: "The SACP congratulates the CPV and the people of
Vietnam for the decisive blow you dealt imperialism sinceyour victory in
1975. We, the SACP, continue to be greatly inspired by the example, gains
and lessons of the Vietnamese revolution."�
National Council member of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front,
FMLN, of El Sanvador Eduardo Alfonso Linares Rivera said: "We thank the
Vietnamese people for their valuable lessons and experiences which have
encouraged us to cope with aggressive imperialists in El Salvado. We pledge
to promote solidarity, revolution and socialism in the course of
safeguarding nations threatened by imperialism."
Portuguese Communist Party Central Committee Politburo member Jose N-Da
Silva Casanova said: "The experiences gained in the struggle against
imperialism and backwardness, the achievements in concretising measure in
the transitional period to socialism are not only a valuable treasure of the
Vietnamese communists but also a source of inspiration and confidence for
communists and revolutionaries in the world. (VNA)

Vietnam, RoK boost co-operation
A 20-member delegation from Vietnam's Ministries of Planning and Investment
and Public Security, the Party organisation and the Ho Chi Minh National
Politics Institute has paid a 10-day working visit to the Republic of Korea,
RoK to boost co-operation.
The visit, which started on May 1, is part of a programme on partner
building for Vietnam's high-ranking officials. The programme is designed to
promote bilateral co-operative ties.
The Vietnamese guests will be informed by RoK experts on their globalisation
strategy, external policy and experiences in national development.
The Vietnamese officials and RoK experts will also discuss measures to
further the two countries' co-operation.
Since 1991, through the Korean International Co-operation Agency, the RoK
Government has invited 820 Vietnamese cadres to attend training courses in

Site of eastern region's arm feats completed
The seventh Military Zone Command held a ceremony on April 30 to inaugurate
a historical site.
It reflects the exploits of the eastern region and a cultural house of the
seventh military zone at 247 Hoang Van Thu street, Tan Binh district, Ho Chi
Minh City.
The site re-creates 43 famous places of interest, relics and events of the
resounding victories of nine south-eastern provinces, which is set among
green trees, verdant grass, lakes and the natural environment.

Delegations visit Truong Sa archipelago
Delegations from the Party, State, Government and the Ministry of National
Defence led by Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army
Major General Do Trung Duong and Deputy Chief of the General Logistics
Department Colonel Nguyen Van Dung have paid visits to the Truong Sa
(Spratly) archipelago.
The delegations brought along gifts worth VND 93 million to soldiers and
residents on the islands of central Khanh Hoa province on the occasion of
the 26th liberation day of the south.
Other gifts such as papers, books, newspapers, video tapes, sweets, cakes,
clothes and sport gears have been given to the islands' soldiers and local
inhabitants.
Art performances were also held by military art troupes on this occasion.
