Sheridan referred to watchdog
=====================
Scottish Socialist MSP Tommy Sheridan has been referred to the Standards
Committee for trying to stop a blind woman from being evicted.
The parliament's presiding officer, Sir David Steel, took the action
against Mr Sheridan following a complaint from fisheries minister Rhona
Brankin.
Ms Brankin said Mr Sheridan, Glasgow region MSP, had got involved in the
case in her Midlothian constituency without seeking her approval.
Mr Sheridan said he was "annoyed" at the disciplinary action but
predicted the public would back him for taking up the case of Vicky
Haylott.
A spokesman for the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP) said Ms Haylott had
previously contacted Ms Brankin in an attempt to prevent the eviction.
But he said she was dissatisfied with the minister's response and had
appealed to Mr Sheridan because she was also a member of the SSP.
