Kim Jong Il inspects KPA unit no. 415
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) - Leader Kim Jong Il inspected KPA unit no. 415
on May 7. He was accompanied by KPA generals Hyon Chol Hae, Pak Jae Gyong
and other general officers, secretary Kim Kuk Thae and first vice department
directors of the c.c., the Workers' Party of Korea.
Kim Jong Il first dropped in at the unit command.
Seeing the chart showing the history of President Kim Il Sung's on-site
guidance given to the unit, he recalled with deep emotion the immortal
exploits performed by the president for its development.
Then he moved on to the unit's operation command room.
After hearing the report on the situation, he acquainted himself in
detail with the performance of the unit's duty.
Greatly satisfied to know that the servicemen of the unit have done a
lot of work through a vigorous struggle to implement the instructions given
by the president on the spot, he advanced important tasks to be implemented
to increase the combat capacity of the unit in every way.
He met officers and men of the unit and gave a pep-talk to them before
posing for a photo with them. He also inspected a company under the unit.
He took warm care of the servicemen's living, looking round a bedroom,
kitchen, bathroom, sauna, outdoor rest place, pens and other places of the
company.
Very pleased to see the heating system depending on the electricity
produced by the unit itself and good living conditions provided to the
soldiers, he highly appreciated the efforts exerted by the unit.
He gave a pair of binoculars and an automatic rifle to the servicemen of
the unit as gifts and had a photograph taken with them.
The next leg of his inspection was Rimjingang Power Station no. 1 built
by KPA unit no. 567.
Looking round several places including the generating and distribution
rooms, he learned in detail about the construction of the station,
production and use of electricity.
He praised the feats performed by the servicemen of the unit, greatly
satisfied to learn that they erected a precious edifice of eternal value for
the country in a short span of time despite difficulties.
He set forth tasks for the operation and management of the station.

U.S. loudmouthed "threat" from DPRK rebuffed
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- The deputy director of the U.S. CIA told a
"Seminar on North Korean Issues" some time ago that the DPRK might have
possessed one or two nukes as well as biological and chemical weapons. He
also argued that DPRK's Rodong missile and improved versions of it, tipped
with nuclear warheads, are capable of striking the U.S. mainland.
Commenting on this argument, newspapers here today say that this is an
old fiction dreamed up by the U.S. in an attempt to convince the public of
the fictitious "threat" from the DPRK.
 Rodong Sinmun says:
As already known, the DPRK has nothing to do with the "nuclear issue"
and transparency of its nuclear power system built for a peaceful purpose
has been verified. the same is true of the "missile issue".
It is none other than the United States which poses a nuclear threat and
is responsible for nuclear proliferation.
The U.S. is the world's biggest nuclear arsenal and the most dangerous
nuclear and missile maniac. It has deployed a great number of missiles
everywhere in the world and used them as means of blackmail against other
countries, while undisguisedly pushing ahead with the design to weaponize
outer space.
It is ridiculous for the U.S. to raise a hue and cry over "threat" from
the DPRK.
Since it took office, the Bush administration has pursued the hardline
policy to stifle the DPRK, calling for "reduction of its conventional
forces."
After all, this reveals the U.S. wild design to totally disarm the DPRK
and then attain its aggressive aim with ease.
In floating again rumours about non-existent "nuclear issue," "issue of
biological and chemical weapons" and "missile threat" of the DPRK the U.S.
seeks to shift the blame for the stalled process of the DPRK-U.S. dialogue
on to the DPRK and find a pretext for the permanent presence of its troops
in South Korea.
The U.S. should stop such nuclear and missile racket and pull its
aggression forces out of South Korea.
Minju Joson warns that the DPRK will take counteractions of its own
style if the conservative forces of the U.S. continue to toy with it,
pulling it up.

New multi-media programs developed
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- The Korean Computer Center has developed
multi-media programs, drawing public attention. Typical of them are
"international friendship exhibition," "world's wonderland" and "friend of
computer lovers."
"International friendship exhibition" shows 600 pieces of 210,000 gifts
presented to President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il by many heads of
state, prominent figures of the world and international organizations.
introduced in detail there are names of persons, international organizations
and countries and years when they presented gifts.
The animation and music program "the world's wonderland" shows Korea's
scenic spots including Mt. Paektu, Mt. Myohyang and Mt. Kumgang and grand
monumental edifices. The spots and edifices are subtitled in Korean, English
and Japanese and their locations on a map are given.
The sound and picture program "friend of computer lovers" is aimed at
computer education.
This explains problems arising in understanding various programs and at
least 100 common senses related to computer science.

DPRK's promising judoist
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- DPRK judoist Ri Kyong Ok, 21, came first in
the 48 kg division of women's judo at the recent 14th Asian judo
championships. She began to receive training in judo at the extracurricular
sports schools for youth and children at the age of 12. She joined a sports
team at the age of 16.
Her self-possession and fortitude helped her to give a good account of
herself in national and international contests.
She placed third at the munich world judo masters tournament held in
February, thus cutting a conspicuous figure.
Her coach Ryu Ju Song said that she is possessed of diverse tactics and
applies a variety of techniques according to opponents' reaction.
Ri is now under intensive training to participate in world championships
to be held in July.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pyongyang International Trade Fair opens
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang International Trade Fair (May
7-10) is open in the DPRK. The fair brought together the DPRK, China,
Russia, Cuba, Italy, Germany, Australia, Great Britain, France, Singapore,
Japan, Thailand and Taiwan.
Displayed at the fair are over 30,000 products of at least 5,000
varieties including trucks, buses and other vehicles, machines, equipment,
light industrial goods and articles for daily use.
The fair is sponsored by the Korean international exhibition
corporation.
Director of the corporation Ri Su Dok said that the fair would open
every year and it would be a new market linking Asia, Oceania and Europe.

New ambassadors of Spain and Netherlands here
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- Eugenio Bregolat, new Spanish ambassador to
the DPRK, and H. J. de Bries, new Netherland ambassador to the DPRK, arrived
here yesterday.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Director general of UPU here
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- Thomas E. Leavey, director general of the
universal postal union, arrived here today. He was greeted at the airport by
Maeng Hak Sop, vice-minister of post and telecommunications.
The DPRK government hosted a reception in honour of him this evening.

Japan's moves to tamper with history flailed
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- The central committee of the Union of
Agricultral Workers of Korea released a statement today assailing the
Japanese authorities for officially approving on April 3 the middle school
history textbook which covered up and whitewashed Japan's past aggression.
The statement says:
The Japanese imperialists promulgated various "laws" including the "law
on land survey" and the "law on forest" after occupying Korea by force of
arms. On the strength of those "laws" they robbed Korean farmers of more
than one million hectares of fertile land and plundered Korea of over 10
million hectares of forests, thus depriving Koreans of their right to
existence. During their occupation of Korea they savagely looted a huge
amount of grain, agricultural and live-stock products, industrial crops and
specialities and recklessly cut down trees, stripping its mountains and
hills bare. Korea thus turned into a veritable hell.
Such being the hard facts, politicians and official figures of the
Japanese government including four candidates who ran for the recent
presidential election of the liberal democratic party do not hesitate to
make remarks favouring the moves to tamper with history.
The central committee of the union vehemently denounces in the name of
all the agricultural workers in the DPRK the Japanese authorities' shameless
moves to tamper with history and their arrogant behaviour encouraging them
as one more grave insult to the Korean people and a blatant challenge to the
international community and human conscience.
The Japanese authorities should immediately stop the criminal moves to
distort history and take a responsible measure to ensure that crimes against
humanity unprecedented in its history Japan committed during its war of
aggression against Asian countries and its occupation of Korea are mentioned
in history textbooks as they were.
