Burney seeks immediate release of 60 children abducted in Angola: KARACHI: The human rights organization 'Ansar Burney Welfare Trust International' has demanded for the immediate release of 60 innocent children abducted by Unita rebels during an attack by suspected rebels near the Angolan capital Launda, expressing great shock and sadness at the mass killing and kidnapping. The chairman of the Trust and renowned human and civil rights activist Ansar Burney, Advocate also condemned the killing of four humanitarian workers, as well as mass killing of civilians including women and children in the same attack near the town of Caxito last week. He said according to the eye witnesses and reports, Unita rebels killed about 100 innocent people, mainly civilians, in an attack in Caxito, just 60 killometer north of Luanda, with another 100 people missing. "The kidnapped children aged 10 and 17 included nine girls and 51 boys. These innocent children were kidnapped from a 'Children's Home' a center for destitute and orphan children run by an NGO. One Angolian teacher was also abducted from the center," Ansar Burney added. He said the four humanitarian workers included an Angolian doctor working with the Italian NGO, (Coordenacao das Organizacoes Servocos Voluntarious) and three Angolian staff members, two teachers and one worker from the local NGO (Ajuda de Desenvolminento do Povo Para Pvo). The 'Ansar Burney Welfare Trust International' has noted with great concern that dozens of children had died after two mass abductions in Angola last year. He said innocent children abducted are often used to carry goods or ammunation, or forced to hard labour. "In some cases abducted girls ages 10 to 16 are used for sex, or both boys and girls forced to fight with heavy weapons as soldiers or used as defencive shields," Ansar Burney further added.
