Libya News and Views Libyan leader Mu'ammar al-Qadhafi on Saturday condemned the US Africa policy, but expressed satisfaction with European policy toward Africa. "The African continent does not oppose U.S. President George W. Bush's call for the establishment of an economic forum to help Africa, but it is opposed to being divided into the north and south," Qadhafi said, quoted by the official Libyan News Agency. Last week, Libya turned down a U.S. invitation for 35 African countries to meet in Washington in October as a preparation for a U.S.-Sub-Sahara Africa economic and trade cooperation forum. In response to the invitation, a Libyan government spokesman said that "we welcome any assistance to Africa, but we, since the establishment of the African Union in early March, have urged external forces to give up their idea of dividing the continent into democratic and undemocratic countries."
