Albanian terrorists threaten action
GREECE on May 30 called on the international community
to condemn extremist Albanian claims against Greece
made earlier in the day by a self-styled Albanian
"representative". According to the man, who identified
himself as "Mehmeti", an Albanian terrorist group he
called "Tsamouria Liberation Army" has been founded
and will operate in northwestern Greece. "Mehmeti",
who was speaking from Switzerland on a radio broadcast
aired in Australia, said he was representing the
so-called Liberation Army active in the Former
Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). Greek foreign
ministry spokesman Panos Beglitis said that "the sick
imagination of certain terrorist elements, who attempt
to present non-existent issues, seems to have no
bounds. Reaction against them by the international
community should be equally without bounds. The forces
of KLA with their terrorist activities in FYROM and
Kosovo, continue to be a destabilising factor in the
Balkans. For this reason they should be condemned and
isolated by all countries." The Tsami Albanians were
allies of the fascist Italian and German occupying
forces during World War II. Following the 1944
liberation of Greece from the Axis forces this small
group of Albanians were drawn out of the country.
