DHKC May 29, 2001 Statement No: 188 Contra-Guerrilla Attacks Targeting the People in CYPRUS - The Contra-Guerrilla Base of Turkey's Oligarchy CYPRUS will neither be the Gambling Centre of the Oligarchy in Turkey nor The Base of Imperialists There are two things that the rulers of Turkey bring wherever they step in: poverty and tyranny. Everywhere they have stepped in they have begun plunder and robbery and against those who object to this exploitation, they use the only method they know: torture, massacre and other kinds of contra methods. The oligarchy in Turkey has brought poverty and fascism, not peace. This has been proven recently. General strikes, demonstrations by those who have been deceived by the banks, raids on the parliament. Because on the one hand the island's people were made poorer, on the other hand, in parallel to the oppression in the "Motherland", restrictions and detentions were brought about. Denktas and his representatives in Turkey turned Cyprus into their own farm and administrated the island accordingly. The real power in Cyprus is Denktas and the Turkish military, which is backing Denktas. And this power is trying to intimidate the opposition in the Turkish part of the island. The Denktas administration, which has declared that the opposition are the "public enemy", has started attacking them. Denktas's mentality and politics are identical to those of the oligarchy of Turkey. When he could not suppress the people's demands for rights and liberties, he mobilised his contra-organisation and started bombing and threatening the opposition. The contra-organisation that calls itself "National People's Movement" and which is sheltered by Rauf Denktas, began to intimidate those who demand rights and liberties and an opposition newspaper called Avrupa was bombed. The Turkish people of Cyprus say, "This country is ours". Against oppression and poverty a strong and united opposition has been formed. These opposition forces call themselves the "This Country Is Ours Platform" and they say: "Enough is enough!" against Rauf Denktas' oppression and the intervention of Turkey's oligarchy, military and government, which undermine the will of the Cypriots. Some of the opposition is for the European Union. The solution they foresee is not the liberation of the island and its people. Therefore, the conflict in today's Cyprus is a reflection of the conflict within Turkey's oligarchy. In this conflict, the REVOLUTIONARIES stand together with Cypriots who demand independence and democracy and against the rule of Denktas, who is using contra methods to silence the Turkish people of Cyprus, and his supporter, the oligarchy in Turkey. In the Turkish Section of Cyprus there is no "Turkish State"! There is no state at all. The oligarchy of Turkey has converted Cyprus into a contra-guerrilla base, a centre to launder their black money and a casino. This is how the oligarchy is. They massacre dozens of captives while saying, "We saved lives". They condemn the people of Cyprus to poverty and starvation while saying, "We saved Cyprus". The "Turkish" part of the island, for which hundreds of soldiers were sacrificed, has become a haven for casinos. The Turkish part of Cyprus has become the holiday resort and the HQ of the MHP supporters and the contra-guerrilla. Whoever commits dirty business for the sake of the state in Turkey and those perpetrators who commit murders, are all there. The contra-guerrilla organisation called "National People's Movement" is organised by the MHP supporters and Turkish military officers. The oligarchy in Turkey and the imperialist forces, which use the island like an aircraft carrier, must get their hands off Cyprus! No one should pay attention to Denktas's chauvinistic speeches about "Cyprus will be taken away. The UN and EU cannot force anything upon us in Cyprus". The "Cyprus fight" of Denktas and Turkey's oligarchy aims only to protect the regime of black money and the contra-guerrilla. In the Turkish part of Cyprus, the state does not exist. They are trying to deceive everyone by calling this a state. It has no finance except financial support from the oligarchy and the contra-guerrilla in Turkey and it has no independent political line. The entire official organisation in the Turkish part of Cyprus is the organisation of a contra-guerrilla base and a centre for trafficking. Therefore, the first condition for the solution for the problems of Cypriots is the withdrawal of Turkey's oligarchy from the island. The demands and pressure of imperialism concerning Cyprus are intend to pressurise the oligarchy in Turkey and to gain them the freedom to carry out their policies in Cyprus. THE SOLUTION! Each development that has taken place in Cyprus is demonstrating the correctness of the solution that revolutionaries have been advocating for years and which can be summarised as "For an Independent, United and Democratic Cyprus". All the other solutions bring nothing else but the dependence of the people of the island on imperialists or collaborating oligarchies. The people of Cyprus can gain nothing by division, neither through being dependent on Turkey or Greece, nor through being a satellite of European imperialism.
