MADRID, Spain (AP) - About 250 boisterous protesters denounced President
Bush's position on everything from global warming to the Middle East on
Tuesday, shouting ``Bush go home!'' outside the U.S. Embassy in Madrid as he
rested inside.

The rally was called by an ecological and human rights groups who staged a
larger demonstration Sunday, part of a string of protests across Europe that
coincided with Bush's visit to the continent.

In Goteborg, Sweden, police on Tuesday dragged 40 activists from a protest
camp near the site of an upcoming European Union summit that Bush will attend.

Swedish police also said they had detained five people suspected of planning
sabotage, but declined to say what they were planning or who was to be the
target.

In Norway, about 10 Greenpeace activists protesting Bush's environmental
policies boarded a U.S.-bound oil tanker Tuesday as it loaded oil at a
refinery. Another band of anti-Bush protesters boarded a tanker off La Havre,
France on Monday.

In Madrid on Tuesday, the crowd stood on a sidewalk across from the embassy
in one of Madrid's posher neighborhoods and chanted - in English - slogans
like ``Stop Bush'' and ``Bush Go Home.''

Bush's motorcade had rolled into the embassy compound through a rear
entrance, so the protesters did not see him. Bush, who earlier met with Prime
Minister Jose Maria Aznar and King Juan Carlos, was spending the night at the
U.S. ambassador's residence before leaving Wednesday for Brussels.

Signs carried by protesters addressed environmental issues, with one saying:
``The earth is our mother, not your supermarket.''

Another sign criticized Bush's policy in the Middle East and called him a
``murderer of the Palestinian people.''

One protester, Jaime Garcia Velasco, said he was attending the rally because
``Bush is in favor of the imperialists.''

Dozens of Spanish police in blue uniforms stood at the curb to keep the
protesters from approaching the embassy.

In Brussels, where Bush is to attend a NATO summit on Wednesday, hundreds
protested outside the U.S. embassy to Belgium.

Over 30 organizations, including the World Wildlife Fund, Oxfam and Amnesty
International, demonstrated against everything from Bush's stance on the
environment to the death penalty.

With 19 world leaders attending the NATO summit Wednesday, police have beefed
up security around the city and set up security perimeters around the U.S.
embassy and NATO headquarters.
