KALIKOT and KATHMANDU -- Three Maoist guerrillas were killed in
police-Maoist confrontation at Fukot village, 13 kilometres north of
district headquarter.

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Dipak Kumar Thapa, 75
police personnel were at the strike base 500 metres behind Fukot, where
the confrontation took place. He said that police was in the offensive
with the rebels.

Police claims that other four Maoist fighters were injured in the attack
and were carried by the rebels back to their base.

A group of armed Maoists overpowered Laharchand Biswas at his village in
Siswani in Morang district and killed him Saturday. Rebels hurled two
petrol bombs are two business establishments in Nepal's largest
industrial town of Biratnagar Sunday without causing major damage,
police said. Biratnagar is also the hometown of Prime Minister Girija
Prasad Koirala. Maoists destroyed documents at a farmers' co-operative
Sunday afternoon at Chitha village in adjoining Sunsari district, police
said.

Insurgents also destroyed three abandoned police outposts at Topgachi,
Korobari and Kunjibari in Jhapa district Sunday, police said.
