JAILED BECAUSE I STOPPED NATO, SAYS MILOSEVIC
==============================================

BELGRADE, June 20, 2001 (B92)

  Slobodan Milosevic believes that he is being kept in
prison on corruption charges because of the long arm
of NATO, a Belgrade weekly writes today.

  Blic News magazine has published an exclusive,
if brief, interview with the ousted Yugoslav president
from Belgrade Central Prison where he has been held
since April 1.

  Asked by the unnamed interviewer why he was being
kept in prison, the Yugoslav president replies:
"Because I stopped NATO". He adds that "their long
arm" is keeping him there, but nonetheless he
feels "like I won a moral victory".

  The writer of the article adds that the Hague
charge sheet accusing Milosevic of war crimes in
Kosovo remains tucked in through the bars of his cell.
"He has never even looked at it, and shows no
intention of doing so at all," the magazine writes.
