Subject: [downwithcapitalism] Class struggle in S. Korea - update
Australia Broadcasting Corporation. 20 June 2001. Seoul tackles
unionists.
Seoul police have used hammers and rocks to break into dozens of
cement-mixer vehicles in the city's main financial district.
Striking drivers had locked themselves in the vehicles to resist arrest.
Police towed away 70 trucks which had been parked in the busy district
for three weeks as part of a campaign by the drivers to form a union.
Police say they arrested 300 protesters.
The showdown came one day after police announced the arrest of four
Korean Air union leaders for leading illegal industrial action.
President Kim Dae-Jung [showing a deep understanding of class struggle]
says violent strikes are a barrier to attracting investment.
