dead in clashes: Colombian army.


BOGOTA -- At least 30 Colombian soldiers and 26 Marxist guerillas were
killed in fighting Friday in the southern jungle Putumayo region, army
General Nestor Ramirez announced Friday.

Soldiers and rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia
(FARC) clashed in a jungle region around Puerto Leguizamo, located 780
kilometers (485 miles) south of Bogota, Ramirez said.
