PRESIDENT OF LAO-KOREAN ASSOCIATION LEAVES FOR NEPAL

 VIENTIANE, JUNE 28 (KPL). Mr Bounpone Bouttanavong, Secretary of the Lao
People�s Revolutionary Youth Union and President of the Laos-Korea
Friendship Association on June 27 left here for Nepal to attend a
consultation on the unification of Korea by peaceful means.

 While there, the Lao delegation will also take part in a rally in support
of the first anniversary of the North- South joint statement.

 The meeting to be held from June 29 to 30, will draw the attention of a
number of representatives from Asian organisations for friendship and
solidarity.

80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF CHINA

vientiane, june 28 (Kpl) A lecture under the theme of �brilliant
revolutionary deeds" marking the 80th Anniversary of the Communist Party of
China (CPC) was held here on June 26.

The event was organised by the National Organisation for the Studies of
Policy and Administration (NOSPA) and was attended by 100 people. Attendees
included NOSPA Deputy Head Mr Kikeo Khaykhamphitoune, Chinese Charge d�
affairs Yao Bomin, a representative from the Commission for External
Relations of the Central Committee of the LPRP and a number of Lao
officials. 

Mr Yao Bomin highlighted the importance of the achievements and great
victory of the Communist Party of China in the construction of its
socialism. He added that during the 80 years of the CPC, particularly during
the 20 years of implementing the renovation and open door policies, the
national economy and living conditions of the people have been transformed.
The GDP for the year 2000 reached over 8.9 billion yuan, the national
economy has grown to become the seventh largest in the world and
agricultural production has been extended and remained stable.

Mr Yao Bomin also cleared up any doubts about the socialism construction
process among the Chinese leaders.

CHILD RIGHTS CONFERENCE IN XIENG KHOUANG

 VIENTIANE, JUNE 28 (KPL). A children's rights conference titled "An effort
to iron out child issues" was held on June 26 in Xieng Khouang province.

 In his key note speech at the opening ceremony, Vice President of the
provincial Mother and Child Commission Khamkon Phai-oudom said that every
child needed his or her liberties including healthy personal development,
living in peace, and respect.

 Over 250 children attended the conference, and presented their views
pertaining to the significance of child rights, paying attention to
children' s health, AIDS prevention, preventing violence toward children,
listening to children' s views, providing educational access for children,
protection children from war, and protecting children against abuse and
exploitation. 

 In addition, children attended a children's quiz with the hope of winning
prizes, viewed artistic performances, and joined in a meal.
