About 150 protesters attacked the Italian and Canadian embassies in London
overnight, smashing windows and damaging a car, British police said Monday.
The anti-capitalist protesters were dispersed three hours after and three
men in their 20s were arrested, a police spokesman said.
The protest, which began outside the Italian embassy on Sunday night, was in
response to the killing of an anti-capitalist demonstrator by Italian police
during the Group of Eight summit in Genoa, the spokesman.
"A small number of missiles were thrown by the group, causing minor damage
to a building near the Italian embassy," he said.
The protesters then marched towards the Canadian embassy, smashing windows
and damaging a car.
"There were no major incidents or injuries reported," the spokesman added.

People Across China Denounce Falun Gong Cult
The general public across China have continued their condemnation of the
Falun Gong cult for its notorious anti-humanity nature following the
publication of a recently discovered case involving the discarded body of a
pious practitioner.

On December 18 last year, the ailing Liu Renfang, a Falun Gong follower
peasant in southwest China's Sichuan
<http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/province/sichuan.html> Province,
refused to go to hospital or take any medicine. Instead, she came to Beijing
<http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/province/beijing.html> to "protect"
Falun Gong doctrine, where she died of illness.

However, according to reports, her practitioner peers secretly discarded her
body in a river in Beijing's Tongzhou District in order to avoid themselves
or Falun Gong being blamed for Liu's death.

After learning the tragic death of Liu Renfang, Zeng Jicui, a 62-year-old
retired worker in Chongqing
<http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/province/chongqing.html>
Municipality, southwest China, said that she has seen clearly the true
nature of Falun Gong as a cult and she has made up her mind to break from
the evil cult, the People's Daily
<http://www.peopledaily.com.cn/GB/paper464/> reported Monday.

The case has made people further realize the importance of the battle
against the cult headed by Li Hongzhi, said Zhai Chunlin, vice-chairman of
the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Association and vice-chairman
of the municipal anti-cult association, quoted by the newspaper.

Zhai also called on science workers to lead the masses to uphold science and
fight against cults.

Chen Mo and Chen Chen, respectively the chairman and a member of the "Future
Teachers' Anti-cult Association" of the Tianjin
<http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/province/tianjin.html> Teachers'
University, were very angry after learning the tragedy.

They said that this is more irrefutable evidence revealing the anti-society
and anti-humanity nature of the Falun Gong cult.

Zhou Benzhen, one of the leading officials of the Yunnan
<http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/province/yunnan.html> Teachers'
University, was quoted as saying that people working in the education field
should work hard and educate their students with a correct world outlook and
view on life, so as to improve their ability to distinguish what is right
and wrong.

Opening of "Three Direct Links" Allows No Delay Any More
The preparatory meeting of "Taiwan
<http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/data/province/taiwan.html> Economic
Advisory Council " which had caused much noise and attention was finally
staged on July 22 for Taiwan has been plagued over a year by political
turmoil, economic recession and a decline of people's life quality.

Can a single meeting save the island from sinking further into economic
difficulties? It depends on what recipe is prescribed and the way it is
dispensed by Taiwan authorities.

The Taiwan economy is ailing with an "economic growth rate" incessantly
lowered by relevant departments on the island. The predicted rate just
published by "Academia Sinica" a few days earlier was cut to 2.38 percent,
while latest figure from "Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research" stood
at 2.22 percent, hitting a record low since 1975. Stock index and exchange
rates also made nosedives and unemployment rate hit 4.22 percent in June,
two times of that in depressed 80s and supposed to rise higher in the coming
job seeking boom in the summer.

What's the focus of Taiwan's disease? The authorities attribute the island's
economic difficulties to global recession and inter-party political strife
on the island but never mentioned the impact of cross-Straits relations.
Many Taiwan people have pointed out that to change the situation the
island's authorities must handle cross-Straits relations properly instead of
indulging in large-scaled conferences. This time's meeting claims five
groups and five major topics, but the real questions only lie in trade
between Taiwan and the mainland, whether to open "three direct links"
(trade, mail, and air and shipping services across the Taiwan Straits) and
whether to discard "no haste, be patient" policy.

In fact, Taiwan people, especially those from industrial and commercial
circles, all have pointed out the importance and urgency of opening "three
direct links" and getting rid of the said policy to solve economic problems.

The general public is still worrying whether Taiwan authorities would really
realize "three direct links" if they do reach consensus on this point. About
51 percent Taiwan people hold that even the meeting agrees to relax the "no
haste, be patient" policy, it would not be carried out entirely by the
authorities, according to a latest poll.

However, influenced by the three links topic, stock index of Taiwan,
especially those for shipping, suddenly surged up, which means it is the
will of common people and historical trend to open three links.

Taiwan people would be blessed if the authorities could comply with people's
will by taking actual actions to remove the "no haste, be patient" policy
and open three links as soon as possible.
