State of Palestine Ministry of Health Date: July 25, 2001 B'tselem: The Israeli Military Barriers Cause Death to Many Palestinian Patients A report, published by the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, declared that the Center has accredited documents of the Israeli hindrances of the Palestinian ambulances and medical staff, the thing that threatens the life of the Palestinian patients. The Report mentioned the death story of Child Isra Barkat Ahmed from Nablus who passed away after being hindered by the Israeli soldiers for 45 minutes in spite of her dangerous health condition. Isra's father said in his testimony to B'tselem that the Israeli soldiers refused to let them pass the barrier despite his appeals to the soldiers. Isra's father added that the Israeli soldiers did not check his identity or the car, which means that they intended to hinder their movement. The medical resources at the National Hospital at Nablus asserted that Child Isra had passed away before she arrived the hospital. In another example of the Israeli hindrance of the Palestinian patients, the report mentioned the death story of Kefah Zoghrob from Gaza who passed away as a result of the Israeli hindrance on El-Tofah military barrier at El-Mawasi area at Gaza. Kefah was hindered for 2 hours until the Israeli soldiers allowed them to go to the hospital. His father asserted that he called the ambulance that carried his son and was informed of his son's death before arriving the Hospital. However, the report has many testimonies that assert the Israeli involvement in killing the patients as they hinder their arrival to hospitals. Date: July 25, 2001 Palestinian Child Injured by Israeli Shrapnel at Rafah Governorate Palestinian medical resources declared, yesterday, that a ten-year-old child was injured by shrapnel, which the Israeli Occupation Forces bombed towards Salah El-Deen area near the Egyptian borders at Rafah governorate. The same sources added that Child Mohammed Swaileh was injured while the Israeli Occupation Forces were digging at Salah El-Deen area. The child's health condition was described critical as the shrapnel injured his chest and abdomen. Date: July 24, 2001 A Delegation from Red Crescent Society- Gaza and Union of Health Work Committees Visit the Destroyed Houses at Rafah Governorate Dr. Haydar Abdel Shafe, head of Red Crescent Society- Gaza and a commissioner general of civilian rights, called the international public opinion and the human rights related associations for seriously and practically preventing Sharon's government from carrying out its aggressive plans. He asserted that such plans aim at destroying the houses, which are adjacent to the Egyptian borders Dr. Abdel-Shafe accompanied by Dr. Mona El-Farra, Union of Health Work Committees at Gaza, were visiting the destroyed houses at Rafah governorate.
