The C.C., WPK in the message extended warm congratulations and comradely
greetings to the C.C., SACP and all the party members on the 80th

The message said that the SACP liquidated the apartheid system in South

the struggle for the democratic development of the country.
Convinced that the good friendly ties between the two parties would grow
stronger in the common struggle for anti-imperialist independence and
socialism, the message sincerely wished the South African people greater
success in their struggle to strengthen the party and build a new society.

the first place in the women's half light-52 kilogram category at the 2001
world judo championships held in Munich, according to a news report. Kye Sun
Hui defeated all rivals, the Japanese in the semi finals and German in the
finals, and won a gold medal.
The championships brought together more than 560 male and female
judoists from 89 countries and regions including the DPRK.

55th anniversary of Law on Sex Equality observed
Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates an editorial
to the 55th anniversary of the Law on Sex Equality promulgated by President
Kim Il Sung on July 30, 1946. All the women should emerge as winners in the
drive to build a powerful prosperous socialist nation by vigorously
accelerating the revolutionary advance in the new century under the
leadership of Kim Jong Il, the editorial notes, and goes on:
The promulgation of the law enabled the Korean women to participate in
all aspects of social life including politics, economy and culture with
equal rights with men free from the centuries-old feudal oppression and
humiliation and perform a great role in the revolution and construction,
fully responsible for the building of a new society.
President Kim Il Sung, deeming it an important issue to achieve the
women's social and political emancipation and independence from the very day
he embarked upon the road of revolution at his early age, worked heart and
soul for them. The cause of women's emancipation was pushed forward under
the care of Kim Il Sung and it has entered a higher stage of its progress
under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.
Pointing to the good spiritual and moral qualities of the Korean women
who have grown up under the loving care of the great leaders, the editorial
notes that they made a cheerful march despite whatever difficulties and
ordeals in the periods of the "arduous march" and the forced march, ardently
worshipping and following Kim Jong Il only.
The Korean women are now faced with an important task to display their
revolutionary spirit in the revolutionary march to glorify a new era of
Juche revolution under his leadership.
It is a glorious revolutionary task for the Korean women to powerfully
push one of the wheels of the chariot to build a powerful prosperous
socialist nation, the editorial notes, calling on them to live in a
revolutionary and militant manner in all aspects.

Barrages along taedong river pay off profusely
Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA)-- There is the west sea barrage in the lower
reaches of the taedong river flowing through Pyongyang. It is one of the
biggest rivers in the DPRK. There are also the Mirim, Ponghwa, Songchon and
Sunchon barrages along the river all of which computerized.
According to Jong Myong Chol, director of the barrage management bureau
of the ministry of land and marine transport, the barrages are linked with
the hydro-meteorological service by a computer network to gather
hydro-meteorological information and take immediate proper measures against
flood.
The barrages were built in the 1980s to make the best use of the river
in industry, agriculture and other fields of the national economy and add
beauty to the landscape of the areas along the river.
They provide convenience to people in their life and contribute to the
transport in the country.
Since the completion of the west sea barrage trading ports can handle
cargo ships up to 50,000 ton class.
Now at least 16 million passengers and more than 17 million tons of
freight can be transported a year along the navigational route extending
hundreds of kms in the Taedong River and its tributary, the Jaeryong River.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Russian newspaper on U.S. moves to ignite second Korean war
Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- The Russian newspaper Pravda carried an
article headlined "New aggression is prepared" on July 27. The United States
is about to set up four new combat brigades allegedly to cope with a
possible dispute in the Asia-Pacific region, which proves its preparations
for a second Korean war, the newspaper pointed out, and went on:
It is 48 years since the armistice agreement was signed, but the Korean
peninsula has not yet been freed from the danger of war.
Its main cause lies in the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK and the
U.S. troops' presence in South Korea.
Reconciliation and reunification between the north and south of the
Korean peninsula depend on when the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK
comes to an end.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rally in S. Korea to protest against MD
Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- The South Korean newspaper Hangyore on
July 26 gave an account of protesting rallies held in South Korea to check
the establishment of the U.S. "Missile Defense" system. According to the
newspaper, the all-people measure committee for closure of the U.S. troops'
bombing ground in Maehyang-ri and the joint measure committee for checking
the "Missile Defense" system (MD) and realizing peace held a rally in Seoul
on July 26 in denunciation of the Lockeed Martin Company, an enterprise for
management of the Maehyang-ri bombing ground, and urged closure of the
bombing ground and abandonment of the U.S. "MD."
The all-people measure committee said that Maehyang-ri villagers were
angry with the U.S. military for demanding 750,000 Phyong of urban area in
return for its worthless military base and insisting on maintenance of the
bombing ground in Maehyang-ri even after they won a lawsuit for damages in
April to prove the validity of the struggle for closure of the bombing
ground. the organization urged the U.S. military and Lockeed Martin Company
once again to immediately close the bombing ground.
At least 200 members of the all-people measure committee and the
committee of measures for damage done to Maehyang-ri villagers held a rally
and submitted letters of protest to the Lockeed Martin Company and the U.S.
embassy, demanding closure of the bombing ground.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japan's militarist hegemonism strategy under fire
Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- 27 members of the society of national
assemblymen for establishing the spirit of the nation released a statement
on July 27 in demand of redress for the Japanese government's distortion of
history and a halt to the Japanese prime minister's visit to the "Yasukuni
Shrine," according to Seoul-based CBS. The statement said that prime
minister Koizumi's visit to the "Yasukuni Shrine" is a link in the chain of
the militarist hegemonism strategy of the Japanese political elite group. It
urged the Japanese prime minister to be awakening and immediately correct
the contents of history textbooks aimed at the revival of militarism.
The statement stated that they will make disc on the brutal murderous
atrocities at the time of the Japanese imperialist aggression and send it to
all countries of the world unless Japan accepts their demand.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
U.S. destruction of Korea during Korean War beyond human imagination
Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- Foreigners are unanimous in saying that
"we have never seen such a magnificent city with so many monumental edifices
anywhere in the world" while enjoying a bird's-eye view of Pyongyang from
the balcony atop the tower of the Juche idea standing on the bank of the
River Taedong. It is quite natural for them to say so.
48 years ago, however, Pyongyang was severely destroyed during the war
as was the case with all other places in the country.
During their temporary occupation of Pyongyang the U.S. imperialist
aggressors blew up or burned industrial and cultural establishments and
other buildings in the city.
Pyongyang had a population of 420,000 at the time the war broke out. the
U.S. imperialists dropped more than 428,700 bombs over the city.
UN forces commander Clark and other brasshats who directly commanded
their battles in Korea orchestrated a "scorched earth operation" and
"strangulation operation," bluffing they would erase North Korea from the
map.
In the period from June to the end of October 1950 alone a total of
50,000 planes made sorties, destroying everything in rural and mountanious
areas, to say nothing of those in urban areas.
During the three-year long Korean war the U.S. dropped more than 564,400
tons of bombs and over 32,300 tons of napalm bombs over North Korea, 18
bombs per square km.
More than 8,700 factories and enterprises, over 5,000 schools, at least
1,000 hospitals and clinics and more than 260 cultural establishments were
completely destroyed during the war. Hundreds of thousands of hectares of
arable lands were rendered unfit for cultivation and many irrigation
facilities and river embankments destroyed.
The U.S. barbarous destruction baffled human imagination.
Cuban woman lawyer Candelaria Rodriguez Hernandez who witnessed GIs'
mass killings and destruction in spring 1951 said that Korea was literally
reduced to debris and a heap of ashes, adding that even land lost its shape
as it was severely destroyed by all kinds of bullets and splinters.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Women regarded as flowers in Korea
Pyongyang, July 30 (KCNA) -- 55 years have passed since the Law on Sex
Equality was promulgated by President Kim Il Sung on July 30, Juche 35
(1946). This law made it possible for the women in Korea to take part in all
spheres of social life with human dignity and genuine rights.
In the DPRK women are playing an important role in the revolution and
construction while being highly regarded as the flower of the country.
They devotedly worked for the party, the leader, the country and the
people in the grim annals of the Korean revolution.
In those years of unprecedentedly severe ordeals women overcame
hardships with smiles on their faces and made signal achievements in their
fields like men.
Typical of them are heroines Jong Song Ok, queen of Marathon, Pak Ok
Hui, chairwoman of the management board of a co-op farm in a remote
mountaineous area, and Hyon Yong Ra, a scientist.
Among the Korean women are soldiers who have been trained as
a-match-for-a hundred combatants to reliably defend sky, land and sea of the
country. There are servicemen's family art circle members who are
dynamically propelling the advance in the new century with revolutionary and
militant dances and songs.
This clearly shows what dignity and honor the Korean women enjoy in the
era of the great army-first policy.
They are now devoting their energy, wisdom and zeal to putting into
practice leader Kim Jong Il's far-reaching plan of building a powerful and
prosperous nation as soon as possible.

junio.
