Star Wars protest on Hiroshima anniversary
=============================

Nuclear disarmament campaigners are marking the anniversary of the bombing
of Hiroshima with a rally in London.

They will be protesting against the so-called Son of Star Wars project.

The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) organised the protest against the
US National Missile Defence scheme in London's Tavistock Square.

CND members will handing in a petition and thousands of personal messages
protesting against the project to Downing Street.

Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn, who sits on CND's National Council, described
President Bush's promotion of the scheme as a "monumental folly of the
highest order".

He said that the "sinister development" would mean that there was a real
possibility that the horrors of Hiroshima could revisit the world at some
point in the future.

He added: "The implications of the deployment of National Missile Defence
are chilling.

"As Bush goes ahead with his crazy plans, Hiroshima stands out starkly as a
warning to the world about the implications on nuclear war."On Saturday
protesters completed a 300-mile walk from the Faslane naval base on the
River Clyde to show their opposition to the project.

The CND march ended at RAF Fylingdales, North Yorkshire, which houses a 160
million state-of-the-art radar system.
