Campaign to unite Nepal's Communists
===========================

The largest communist party in Nepal, the United Marxist Leninist (UML)
party, says it is launching a campaign to unite the country's divided
communists.

But it said the outlawed Maoists, who have been fighting a violent campaign
to establish a communist state, would not be included.

The UML decision comes ahead of peace talks planned between the government
and the Maoists.

There are more than 10 communist parties in Nepal.

A BBC correspondent in Kathmandu says the move to isolate the Maoists has
been prompted by fears that they could convert their support among Nepal's
poor into votes if they join the electoral process.
