ALL INDIA ANTI-IMPERIALIST FORUM OBSERVES

HIROSHIMA DAY IN CALCUTTA

The Hiroshima Day on August 6, is the one which peace-loving people of the
world pledge afresh to stand up against the threats of nuclear war and
weapons that are perpetrated by the imperialists. This year too the West
Bengal State Committee of the All India Anti-imperialist Forum organized an
impressive rally in Calcutta to observe the Hiroshima Day.

The rally denounced the henious crime against the humanity that the US
imperialism committed in 1945; at the same time, it condemned unambiguously,
the police atrocities on the anti-G8 Meet demonstrators at Genoa, more so
the brutal killing of a retrenched worker, Carlo Giuliani, shot at and run
over by the Italian police during the demonstration. And with deep concern
it takes note of the imperialist conspiracy to paint the former Yugoslav
President Slobodan Milosevic as a war criminal and condemns this imperialist
threat to other nations against any future refusal to comply with
imperialist dictates.

The rally also condemned the war mongering US imperialism, which creates
fresh threats of nuclear warfare with its NMD Programmes and ignores the
world opinion by rejecting Kyoto Treaty and by its decision to produce
weapons for biological warfare.

The rally started from Subodh Mullick Square and marched onto the American
Centre on Chowringhee Road. There the rally burnt an effigy of the US
President Bush, the worst and fiercest representative of the present-day
utterly decadent world capitalist-imperialist order.

A number of eminent intellectuals of the state and fore-ranking participants
of anti-imperialist struggle, including Prof. Sunandya Sanyal and Prof.
Tarun Sanyal, the President and Vice-President respectively, of the State
Committee of the Forum, addressed the rally and placed their deliberations
on different aspects of imperialist aggressions and intrigues, paid tributes
to the martyrs of

anti-imperialist struggles and drew attention to the need to step up that
struggle in different parts of the world, including ours.
