Vigorous movement for promotion of national reunification
UN urged to take measures against U.S. policy of aggression
pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Genaro Ledesma Izquieta, chairman of the
People's Front of Workers, Peasants and Students of Peru, issued a statement
on August 1 as regards the answers leader Kim Jong Il gave to questions
raised by Itar-Tass. His Russia visit proves the good relations between the
DPRK and Russia, he said, and went on:
The U.S. clamour about "missile threat" from the DPRK is totally
baseless and its foreign policy poses a grave threat to the world people.
His answers to questions raised by Itar-Tass are of epochal significance
in awakening the world people to the real threat of the U.S.
Our organization calls on UN to take measures against the policy of
aggression pursued by the U.S. under the pretext of "threat from North
Korea".
Month of international solidarity with Korean people closes
Havana, August 9 (KCNA) -- A closing ceremony of the month of
international solidarity with the Korean people was held in Cuba on July 31.
At the ceremony the executive secretary of the Cuban committee for
supporting Korea's reunification said that the united states is aggravating
the situation of the Korean peninsula, instead of drawing a lesson from its
defeat in the Korean War. The U.S. should stop at once such acts as laying
obstacles to detente and peace on the Korean peninsula, he urged.
Then, an art performance was given by Cuban artistes before a Korean
film "Panmunjom." was screened.
U.S. clamour about "missile threat" from DPRK refuted
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- The United States, driven into a tight
corner by a strong domestic and foreign protest against the Missile Defense
System (MD), is citing the "missile threat" from the DPRK as a pretext for
pushing forward it. Commenting on this, Rodong Sinmun today says:
The U.S. administration is working hard to attain its criminal aim at
any cost at the sacrifice of the DPRK, but such a trick will work on nobody.
It is preposterous for the U.S., the root cause of missile threat, to
clamour about the non-existent "missile threat" from the DPRK and it is
nothing but sophism to cover up its dominationist intention.
By desperately working to establish the MD the U.S. seeks to have an
absolute nuclear edge over other countries and establish its unchallenged
domination over the world.
The DPRK is compelled to take a countermeasure for self-defence, given
that the U.S. pushes forward the MD under the pretext of "threat" from the
DPRK.
The DPRK makes it clear once again that its missile program is of purely
peaceful nature and it threatens nobody. It is our legitimate sovereign
right to carry out peaceful missile program.
It is the DPRK's unshakable stand and will to reciprocate good will and
react to a hard line with a super hard line.
No one has a right to fault the DPRK for it.
15th World Festival of Youth and Students opens
El Djazair, August 8 (KCNA correspondent) -- The 15th World Festival of
Youth and Students opened in El Djazair on August 8. The festival is being
held in the African continent in the first year of the new century under the
slogan "Let us wage world-wide struggle against imperialism and for peace,
solidarity and development" .
The DPRK delegation of youth and students was the first to enter the
place of the opening ceremony, breaking the custom of the festival.
The crowd welcomed with cheers and applause the Korean young men and
women marching with the flags bearing portraits of President Kim Il Sung and
leader Kim Jong Il in the centre of their ranks.
Members of the delegation danced graceful, rhythmical folk dances.
The secretary general of the general union of Arab students said that
the graceful dance rhythm and valiant and militant spirit shown by the DPRK
delegation greatly contributed to decorating the beginning of the festival.
He said he was moved to see its vigorous demonstration of national
dignity and might with the flags bearing the portraits in its ranks.
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in his congratulatory speech
said that future belongs to youth and the youth should unite to struggle for
freedom and peace.
Meanwhile, the President met with Kim Kyong Ho, secretary of the central
committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League who is heading the DPRK
delegation to the festival. On the occasion the President said that the DPRK
delegation showed a very good demonstration at the entrance ceremony for the
opening of the festival.
Korean art is on the world-level and the Korean youth is really good, he
stressed, adding that the relations between Algeria and the DPRK provided by
Kim Il Sung have long traditions.
The Korean national club for the 15th World Festival of Youth and
Students opened at the El Djazair palace of culture on August 9.
The DPRK delegation will hold friendship gatherings and exchange of
views with delegations of youth and students from different countries and
conduct distinctive and colorful activities including book and photo
exhibitions and art performances there.

News of Kim Jong Il's official visit to Russia widely reported abroad
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- As many as five billion people around the
world including political and public figures listen to news of leader Kim
Jong Il's historic official visit to Russia everyday, according to
information available. Every news of his visit to Russia was specially
reported everyday by TVs in more than 150 countries. Among them were
hundreds of Russian national and regional TVs such as NTV, ort and central
TV, Chinese Central TV, CNN TV, BBC Radio and TV, TVs no.1 and no.3 of
France and NHK TV.
A total of 30 billion people around the world listened to news of his
official visit to Russia since the first report on Kim Jong Il's meeting
with President Putin was released on August 4.
Anecdotes about Kim Il Sung
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- It happened when President Kim Il Sung
was on a trip to give on-site guidance to mountainous Sakju county. Feasting
his eyes with deep attention on a maize field from his car running on the
steep roadside, he asked the chauffeur to stop the car. He walked into the
field and examined maize ears to know if they were ripened and how heavy
they were. Holding a handful of earth, he told officials to prospect the
area, saying that there might be an apatite deposit for sure, as maize was
doing well in the sloping field. Later prospecting officials surveyed the
place where the car stopped, confirming the area as an apatite deposit.
This was how a big apatite mine came into being in the DPRK where
apatite was considered as not available before.
There is another anecdote about him.
One summer day in Juche 49 (1960), he happened to meet an angler by the
side of the Sunhwa River flowing at the foot of Mangyong Hill.
Praising his angling skill, he asked about his occupation.
Feeling ashamed, the man told the president that he was working as a
barber at a school. saying that his job was very good, the president told
him how gratifying he would feel to stroke down pupils' hair as a barber as
he himself has no time to pat all the pupils on the head.
He repeatedly asked him to take good care of pupils, the treasure and
future of the country.
Another anecdote about him says:
One day in Juche 35 (1946), an old man working for a democratic
political party visited his office and made a rare request to him.
The man told Kim Il Sung that he married a woman shortly ago only to be
"maltreated" as he was old. So he asked the president to help him get some
tonics such as wild Insam (Ginseng) and young antlers of the deer. Laughing
hearty laugh, the President promised to help him so that his wife might not
despise him.
A year later the 70 years old man became father of a son.
Later the president spared time to attend a feast given in celebration
of his son's 100 days after birth.
Vigorous movement for promotion of national reunification
pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- A vigorous movement for national
reunification is now under way nationwide, says Rodong Sinmun today in a
signed article. It goes on:
A stride forward toward reconciliation and unity taken under the banner
of the June 15 Joint Declaration resulted in a nationwide movement for
reunification, the movement for promoting national reunification.
It is making a victorious advance along its orbit despite all challenges
of enemies at home and abroad to reunification and the great vitality of the
idea of national independence is given full play.
The movement for the promotion of national reunification is, in essence,
a movement to achieve national independence.
The movement for the promotion of national reunification is one for
national independence as it reflects the strong will of the Korean nation to
solve the issue of its destiny by itself, aware that it is responsible for
its destiny.
It is a patriotic movement because it reflects the unanimous desire and
hope of the Korean nation at present.
Today all the fellow countrymen unanimously wish to build a unified
national state based on common denominators of the nation by putting the
nation above ideology and system.
Pushing aside differences in ideology, system and religion all the
Koreans should consider national reunification as their vital task and rise
up in unity to meet the common interests of the nation. Only then can the
movement for the promotion of national reunification display its might.
