The resistance group will not yield to Israeli threats, southern commander of Hezbollah (Party of God) Nabil Qaouk said during a visit on Sunday to the divided village of Ghajar in southern Lebanon, which came one day after Israeli army declared the village a military zone. Qaouk, accompanied by some 200 Hezbollah members, said that his visit is a "message to Israel that the resistance group will not hesitate to defend any inch of Lebanese territories no matter how much Israeli threats increase." Israeli soldiers patrolled the area overlooking the village during Qaouk's visit. The United Nations has drawn the Blue Line to authenticate Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon in May 2000. The Ghajar village is divided by the line, with two thirds inside Lebanon and the rest in Israeli-occupied Syrian territories. Following protests by local residents, the Israeli army refrained from building a border fence in the middle of the village. But Israel claimed that the absence of a fence in the village will cause a security risk, and tried to circumvent the dilemma in January by erecting a fence around the northern tip of Ghajar in the Lebanese part.
