US Postal Service should act according to international law: foreign
ministry

"We hold that the US Postal Service, a government agency, should act in
conformity with international law and the present relations between Vietnam
and the United States, and should not be pressured by those who try to
deliberately sabotage the currently improved relations between the two
countries," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh in Hanoi on
August 20.

Ms Thanh was answering foreign correspondents' question about Vietnam's
reaction to the US Postal Service's re-collecting thousands of copies of the
pamphlet titled 'A World of Service to Meet Your Needs' whose cover was
printed with many countries' flags, including Vietnam's.

She said that Vietnam is contacting the US Postal Service to clear up the
question.

"The 'Red and Golden Star' flag is the national flag of the Socialist
Republic of Vietnam," Ms Thanh said. She added that Vietnam, and the US have
established diplomatic relations, so any intention to remove Vietnam's 'Red
and Golden Star' flag from US official publications relating to Vietnam is
at variance with international law and Vietnam-US relations and will cause
doubt about the sincerity of US policy of building friendly relations, and
mutual understanding and respect with Vietnam. (VNA)
