International Action Center Condemns U.S./Israeli
Assassination of Palestinian Leader Abu Ali Mustafa,
Demands End to U.S. Arming and Funding of Israel

The International Action Center (IAC) condemns in the
strongest possible terms the murder of Palestinian leader
Abu Ali Mustafa, General Secretary of the Popular Front for
the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), and expresses our
deepest sympathy to his family and to the Palestinian
people.

Abu Ali Mustafas life is a shining example of great courage
and unbreakable determination to achieve liberation for the
Palestinian people. His death is a heavy blow to his family,
his organization and to the Palestinian movement. The huge
manifestations of anger and grief in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria,
Palestine and in other parts of the world, are powerful
testimony to the popular esteem for this historic leader.

The vicious and cowardly murder of Abu Ali Mustafa, killed
at his desk in Ramallah on Aug. 27, 2001, was an act of
state-sponsored terrorism by the Israeli government of war
criminal Ariel Sharon, said Richard Becker, of the IAC.
This assassination, for which the Israeli government
proudly takes credit, was carried out by means of
U.S.-supplied missiles fired from a U.S.-supplied Apache
helicopter, as has been the case in most of the more than 60
assassinations carried out by Israel over the past 11
months.

Becker was part of an IAC delegation, which traveled to the
West Bank and Gaza in late October 2000, one month after the
current Intifada (uprising) began. The IAC delegation met
with Abu Ali Mustafa at that time, in the same room where he
was killed yesterday.

Not only has the U.S. government supplied the high-tech
weaponry of death to Israel, it has also provided the
political/diplomatic support which enables Israel to carry
out its policy of state murder, said Sara Flounders,
another member of the IAC delegation that met with Abu Ali
Mustafa in October 2000. Just a few weeks ago, Vice
President Cheney said that there is some justification for
Israels policy of assassination. The U.S., which sends
Israel billions of dollars annually in military and economic
aid, has given the Israeli occupiers the green light for its
extreme brutality against the Palestinian people.

The U.S. bears responsibility for the murder of Abu Ali
Mustafa and more than 550 other Palestinians killed since
the new Intifada began in Sept. 2000, Flounders continued.
The United States government is also responsible for the
suppression of the Palestinian people, for the denial of
their right to self-determination.

While U.S. government officials never tire of
hypocritically preaching to the world about terrorism,
said Becker, the assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa
demonstrates once again this simple fact: The number one
terrorist in the Middle East today is U.S. imperialism,
which, directly or through its surrogate regimes, has
slaughtered millions of people, from Iran to Iraq to
Palestine and more, in its relentless quest to subjugate
this key strategic region.

The assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa was another grave
violation of international and U.S. law, stated Flounders.
U.S.-supplied weaponry is supposedly to be used only for
defensive purposes. But neither U.S. government officials
nor the corporate media are likely to address this issue.
Over the past half-century, Israel has killed tens of
thousands of Palestinians, driven hundreds of thousands into
exile, subjected hundreds of thousands more to torture,
imprisonment, homelessness, deprivation and racist abuse,
said Becker. The goal of U.S. and Israeli policy has been
not only to defeat the Palestinians, but to destroy them as
a people. This is nothing less than genocide. But the
ruthless U.S./Israeli attempts to crush the Palestinians and
erase their name from the worlds vocabulary have not
succeeded and will not succeed. Nor will the despicable
assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa diminish the peoples
struggle just the opposite.

The International Action Center calls upon all who stand
for justice to step up solidarity with the heroic
Palestinian struggle, said Flounders. Our first demand
must be an end to the U.S. arming and funding of Israels
repression of the Palestinian people.

ABU ALI MUSTAFA PRESENTE!
U.S. IMPERIALISM OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST -- PALESTINE WILL
WIN!
