WORKING GROUP on PUERTO RICO/SOCIALIST FRONT
Statement on the Israeli murder of Palestinian leader Abu Ali Mustafa

The murder of Palestinian leader Abu Ali Mustafa by Israeli helicopter
gunships that fired missiles into the office of the Popular Front for the
Liberation of Palestine in the West Bank city of Ramallah, once
again points to the hideous nature of the Israeli occupation.

Like the treatment experienced by Puerto Rican freedom fighters at the hands
of U.S. colonialisms repressive forces for the past century, the murder of
Abu Ail Mustafa was an act of the utmost cruelty. Yet, in a cowardly manner,
the U.S. puppets of Tel Aviv continue to justify the murder of unarmed
Palestinian men, women and children as acts of "self defense."

With this recent outrage the U.S.-backed Israeli state intended to break the
Palestinian spirit. But this logic shall be proven to be ridiculous, because
the will of the Palestinian people has been steeled over a course of time,
favorable for them to continue waging their historical struggle for complete
national liberation.

Despite the U.S. governments attempt to distance itself from this most
recent show of Israeli barbaric behavior, it was Washington, DCs
endorsement of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, demonstrated with
arms shipments, funds and political support, that ultimately killed brother
Abu Ail Mustafa. The U.S. was very much an accomplice in this crime.

These heavily armed helicopter gunships, like the F-16 fighter planes,
rocket launchers, missiles and tanks used for killing the Palestinian
people, are tested and rehearsed on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques,
where a popular struggle is taking place to oust the U.S. military presence.
The murder of Abu Ail Mustafa and hundreds of other Palestinian sisters and
brothers by Israeli military forces, is yet another consequence of the U.S.
military use and occupation of the island of Vieques.

Puerto Ricans and all who seek freedom, will surely morn the death of a
Palestinian warrior. We will do so by continuing to express our solidarity
with the Palestinian cause and by doing everything necessary in our struggle
to weaken the position of and do away with U.S. imperialism.
