Durban: ANC Organizes Solidarity with Cuba Meeting

Durban, South Africa, September 2 (AIN)--The historical relations between
Cuban and South Africa provided today yet another example of the solid
foundations that they have, when the members of the African National
Congress, ANC, and other political and social forces of this nation,
organized a solidarity with Cuba meeting, during which Cuban President Fidel
Castro addressed the participants.

Fidel was the keynote speaker of the meeting in which hundreds of
participants thanked Cuba for its contribution in the struggle against
apartheid.

Among those present was ANC Secretary General Kgalema Monblamte.

Commander in Chief Fidel Castro highlighted in his speech that there was no
better place in the world than South Africa to be the venue for the World
Conference Against Racism, because in this country the epic final battle
against Apartheid took place.

Fidel reminded the audience about the internationalist support provided by
the people of Cuba in the struggle for the independence of the African
continent, and he stated that "our neighbors to the north " (the United
States of America) were accomplices of that racist policy.

"What kind of morals can they have now to sabotage the World Conference
Against Racism, if they supported the Apartheid when the racists were trying
to destroy the independence of Angola and kept Namibia under occupation?"
Fidel asked.

Commander in Chief Fidel Castro emphasized that now they pretend not to keep
on looting Africa, involving the continent in conflicts of all kinds, and he
described this situation as a new globalization of the Apartheid.

Fidel exhorted the South Africans to keep the unity of the people, and told
the audience about Cuba's position of continuing its cooperation with this
nation in different areas.

Later Fidel talked briefly with a group representing the 440 Cuban medical
doctors who are currently providing health care services in South Africa.
