India: Red alert in Jharkhand as Naxals call 72-hour-long clamp-down on
vehicular traffic

According to official sources, a red alert has been sounded across the
Jharkhand State following a 72-hour strike call given by left-wing
extremists, Naxalites of the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC), on the movement
of vehicles in Jharkhand and neighbouring Bihar from September 5.

A senior police official, while speaking to newsmen in Ranchi, said no
untoward incident was reported so far reported from any part of the State,
but the movement of trucks and buses, particularly in Naxalite-infested
areas, has been suspended as a precautionary measure. He said security
measures have been beefed up and patrolling around vital installations has
been intensified to prevent any untoward incident.
