The idea that Afghanistan isn't strategic would come as very annoying and too little too late news for many British (by the way, the next time someone tells you how great a leader Winston Churchill is, you can tell them he thought mustard gas was suitable for the Afghanis, being sub-human and all) and Soviet soldiers who were sent to colonise the place. However, this isn't what is happening. Calling it strategic for oil is correct, but in similar fashion to denouncing the Taliban as ruthless- it is beside the point in such a way that it confuses the issue. Afghanistan is a flashpoint for a new kind of Imperialist strategy. The Empire is reeling. The people have had enough, and there was no longer a Soviet boogeyman. Terrorism is the only threat that the American Empire can bring out to the population that is so personally terrifying to the people that they might be- at best- distracted from the real terror coming from the (ruined) Pentagon or -at worst- allows people to stomach a most vicious permanent cycle of absolute slash and burn; there will be many napalmings and many more absolute slaughters that not even Iraq knows yet. This is the only war left open to our butchers. They wanted this kind of "go get em" and they got it. The reason for the war has to be a very unacceptable crime against humanity- for as the late stages of the last neo-colonial stage of Imperialism begin to break down ever further into permanent crisis- a terrorist global rule is all that America has left. So the stage is now set. Let us be ready. Do not be the slightest surprised if another explosion or terror action happens before the war is fully underway.
