Lipetsk Workers Strike Again as Boss Breaks Agreement
Your Solidarity needed now!

Last month international solidarity was important for the workers at the
Lipchanka garment factory in Lipetsk, (300 km southeast of Moscow) , on
strike in protest at non-payment of wages. The director promised to pay wage
arrears and the workers, mainly women, called off the strike.

But now, using the ancient tactic of divide-and-rule, the boss has gone back
on his agreement, paying only some of the workers (those who initiated the
strike). As a result the factory workers have now re-commenced strike
action.

Please help the workers of Lipchanka , many of whom are single mothers and
desperately need their wages paid on time. Email the model letter of protest
below (or write your own) to the email address below, with copy to us at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] so we can ensure your support is transmitted to the workers
themselves.

General director of Lipchanka Company
Vladimir Torshin

Dear Mr. Torshin,

I/we are writing to you in connection with the workers at Lipchanka, many of
whom have not received their wages from as far back as June. It is barbaric
to expect the women, many of whom are supporting families, to work without
pay. When they exercised their legal right to join and organise in a union,
some of your managers tried to drive union representatives away from the
shop
floor. In particular the manager of Shop 2 tried to intimidate Zinaida
Shmeleva, the chairperson of the local union committee.

Now you have broken an agreement you signed during the dispute last month.
Trade unionists internationally are now being informed about the situation
at
Lipchanka. We demand that you pay the wages of ALL the workers concerned
now!
