Subject: [R-G] Fw: PFLP Communique

Communiqué

18 October 2001

Ramallah: The significant blow delivered by the
military wing of the PFLP to one of the most racist,
extremist, and Zionist symbols of Sharon's government,
Minister Rehavam Ze'evi, has precipitated widespread
national and international reaction. Many countries
have described this action as a crime, a political
assassination, or an attack against efforts to achieve
peace in the region. There is always, however, the
other side of this action which politicians in the
western world are trying to ignore or forget. The
operation of the military wing of the PFLP is a
natural reaction to the continuous crimes of the
Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.
These can be summarized as follows:

the continuation of the occupation of the West Bank
and Gaza Strip, and the rejection of the Israeli
government to recognize the legitimate rights of the
Palestinian people as formulated by international
conventions;

the criminal siege over Palestinian cities, towns, and
villages;

the destruction of homes and lands;

the military bombardment of a civilian population;

the policy of assassination, and the humiliation to
which the entire Palestinian population is subject.
In the past year, more than 700 Palestinians have been
killed and over 16,000 injured.

The Israel occupation forces and their security
apparatus themselves initiated the policy of political
assassination that has resulted in the death of 70
Palestinians. This policy is a clear example of
organized state terror.

Israel crowned its crimes of targeting Palestinian
political leaders when, on 27 August 2001, it
assassinated the Palestinian leader and PFLP General
Secretary Abu Ali Mustafa. This criminal act has
propelled the confrontation to a more critical and
dangerous level. It is only natural and legitimate
for Palestinians to respond appropriately.

The continuation of the Zionist settlement policy in
the West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem contradicts all
decisions of international convention. The Israeli
government, under the leadership of Sharon (known for
his racism and his massacres against the Palestinian
people in Gaza in the seventies and Sabra and Shatilla
in 1982), is determined to continue in its racist and
aggressive policies. These policies have as their aim
the imposition of humiliating conditions on the
Palestinian people while at the same time, ensuring
the existence of the Israeli occupation, despite the
concessions offered by the Palestinian negotiating
team. Israel is responsible, through its unjust and
inhumane occupation, for all the bloodshed and
destruction.

The PFLP calls on all organizations and countries
around the world to take a firm stand in demanding an
end to the brutal Israeli occupation. There can be no
security for any force that occupies another people.
