AFP. 19 October 2001. Belgrade hosts international conference to free
Milosevic.

BELGRADE -- Supporters of Slobodan Milosevic are organising a two-day
international conference beginning Sunday to discuss ways of winning the
release of the former Yugoslav president who is awaiting trial for war
crimes.

Legal experts, artists and commentators from 15 countries including the
United States, the Netherlands, Greece and Italy are due to attend, said
Vladimir Krsljanin, who heads the organising committee for the
conference.

"There is a great need for us to assemble all of the political and legal
arguments against the detention of Mr Milosevic and to coordinate
activities to overcome this situation," said Krsljanin, a member of
Milosevic's Socialist Party.

Milosevic, held in The Hague pending trial before the International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), has pleaded not
guilty and denounced the tribunal as political.
