The town of Malegaon has been under curfew since Friday when a group of people from a particular community clashed with the police who objected to the distribution of inflammatory pamphlets against the U.S. The group distributing the objectionable pamphlets urged people to shun U.S.-made commodities to protest against strikes on Afghanistan. The clashes have claimed eight lives till now, leaving several others injured. Speaking to newsmen before the inauguration of a blood bank here, Mr Bhujbal said preliminary reports suggest that some poeple with vested interests wanted the violence in the powerloom township of Malegaon to continue and erupt further. He said even police personnel were being attacked by the rowdy mob. ``But majority of the common masses do want peace'', he added. Asked about his visit to the disturbed area on Sunday, Mr Bhujbal said it was unfortunate that incidents of fresh violence were reported even after his appeals for peace. ``But the army and the police forces have now managed to control the situation and check the violence in Malegaon'', he said. Mr Bhujbal said the police had been told not to spare any person found fanning the anti-U.S. feeling or directly involved in creating disorder. ``The forces have been asked to identify such people and initiate suitable action'', he added. _________________________________________________ KOMINFORM P.O.
