WHO WE ARE The Socialist Party is like no other political party. It is made up of people who have joined together because we want to get rid of the profit system and establish socialism.
Our aim is to persuade others to become socialists and act for themselves, organising democratically and without leaders, to bring about the kind of society that we are advocating in Socialist Standard for the last 97 years. We are solely concerned with building a movement of socialists for socialism. We are not a reformist party with a programme of policies to patch up capitalism. WHAT WE DO We use every possible opportunity to make new socialists: We publish literature; we write to the press and state our case where possible on phone-in programs and other parts of the media; we run week-end educational conferences; we sell tapes and pamphlets; we hand out leaflets at meetings and demonstrations run by other organisations; we stick up our posters; we talk to our fellow workers wherever we can, including trade unions, tenants associations and student bodies and we contest elections in order to make ourselves known to an even broader number of people As we say that socialism can only be established globally (to replace global capitalism), we are linked with like-minded socialists in other parts of the world. Long established sister parties exist in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and USA and more recently in Austria and India. Socialist literature is available in Arabic, Bengali, Dutch, Esperanto, French, German, Polish, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish as well as English. THE NEXT STEP The more of you who join the Socialist Party the more we will be able to get our ideas across, the more experiences we will be able to draw on and greater will be the new ideas for building the movement which you will be able to bring to us. The Socialist Party is an organisation of equals. There is no leader and there are no followers. So, if you are going to join we want you to be sure that you agree fully with what we stand for and that we are satisfied that you understand the case for socialism. If you want to know more about the Socialist Party, its ideas and activities please see our web www.worldsocialism.org ps. I am going on a holiday and I would not be able to read the list.
