S. Korean army's provocation under fire
��� Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The South Korean army introduced a
105mm-howitzer to the demilitarized zone along the Military Demarcation Line
on November 21 and kept it ready to fire at the north side, according to
military sources. This was perpetrated at a time when all parts of South
Korea are on "emergency alert" under the pretext of surprise attacks on the
u.s.
��� This deliberate and premeditated provocation of the South Korean
military is an open challenge to the historic June 15 North-South Joint
Declaration and the agreement reached between the north and south military
authorities on Sept. 26 last year.
��� The South Korean military authorities will be held wholly responsible
for the grave consequences of their military provocation against the north.

Mongolian embassy officials visit historic site
��� Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- Mongolian ambassador to Korea
Janchivdorjyn Lombo and embassy officials yesterday visited the historic
site associated with the fatherland liberation war on the occasion of the
15th anniversary of the inter-governmental agreement on cultural and
scientific cooperation between the DPRK and Mongolia. Located here was the
supreme command of the Korean People's Army (KPA) where President Kim Il
Sung led the whole party, all the people and the army to victory in the war
from January Juche 40 (1951) to July Juche 42 (1953).
��� Being briefed on the historic site, the guests went round the buildings
and open-air spots associated with revolutionary history.

U.S. increased pressure upon S. Korea to purchase its weapons denounced
��� Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The "National Alliance for Democracy
and Reunification" reportedly issued a statement on November 16 denouncing
the United States for pressing South Korea to purchase its fighters these
days. Referring to the fact that the U.S. pressed South Korea to purchase
U.S.-made "F-15K" planes, the statement said that this was an expression of
its unsatiated ambition to hold supremacy and an act of heralding more
misfortune.
��� The spirit of reconciliation and unity is more urgently needed for the
Korean nation than ever before, now that the relations between the south and
north which had favorably developed since the publication of the June 15
joint declaration are at a stalemate, the statement noted, and continued: if
the South Korean authorities spend a huge amount of funds for the purchase
of weapons, this will create an uncontrollable situation where the north is
invariably regarded as an "enemy" and the south-north relations are brought
back to hostile ones in the past.
��� The statement reminded the U.S. and the "government" authorities that
the taxes collected from the people amounting to 4. 200 billion won should
be used for making preparations for reunification, not for the purchase of
weapons, and they should be spent for the people's existence and the
improvement of their living standard.

Gold medal and honorary diploma to Kim Jong Suk
��� Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The French Institute for the Fidelity
in Work on November 16 decided to award a gold medal and honorary diploma to
the great communist revolutionary fighter Kim Jong Suk on the occasion of
her 84th birth anniversary. The gold medal and diploma were handed to the
DPRK head of the general representation to France by president of the
institute Patrick Bruno.
��� At the meeting the president said that the institute decided to award
the gold medal and honorary diploma to Kim Jong Suk in high recognition of
her exploits in devoting herself to the safety of President Kim Il Sung for
a long time as his most faithful comrade-in-arms.

page to an editorial captioned "Let us vigorously beat drums to step up
drive for building powerful nation, holding high torchlight of Ranam." It

��� Recently leader Kim Jong Il highly praised the indomitable revolutionary
spirit and heroic feats of the workers of the Ranam coal mining machine
complex and called on all other workers and people of Korea to learn from
their fighting spirit and work style in the efforts to build a powerful and
prosperous country in the new century.
��� The torchlight of Ranam lit in the first year of the new century, in
which our country entered a phase of prosperity, is a proud declaration
giving origin to the great revolutionary upswing in the era of army-based
policy and represents a turning point in vigorously beating drums of
revolution in the 21st century.
��� The torchlight Kim Jong Il lit in Ranam is calling on the whole party
and country and all the people to effect fresh leap and innovation in the
general advance to build a powerful nation in the new century.
��� Kim Jong Il unrolled a grandious plan to bring about a great turn in the

its implementation.

"Anti-terrorism special law" rejected
��� moscow, November 20 (KCNA) -- The secretariat of the International
United Confederation of Koreans issued a statement on November 17, accusing
Japan of recently adopting the "anti-terrorism special law". Japan's
adoption of the "law" under the pretext of cooperation in the U.S.
anti-terrorism war is aimed at legalizing overseas dispatch of the
"Self-Defense Forces" for overseas military expansion, the statement said,
and went on:
��� It is a delusion to try to realize the infeasible old dream.
��� Japan should refrain from resorting to a crafty trick to legalize
overseas dispatch of "SDF."

World's famous children's film studio
��� Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- The Korean April 26 Children's Film
Studio is getting renowned as days go by. The films produced by the studio
are popular among children at home and abroad for they deal with sound idea,
rich emotion, truth of life and profound knowledge.
��� The studio has produced many children's films and cartoon films based on
the pedagogical content and cultural life and entertainment since its
establishment in Juche 46 (1957).
��� Children are much interested in scores of children's films adapted from
juvenile stories and serials of children's films "the boy general," "the
clever racoon dog" and "a squirrel and a hedgehog."
��� Over the last 5 years alone the studio has produced nearly 500
children's films.
��� Last year witnessed many scissored-paper and puppet films of great
cognitional and educational value such as "rabbit brothers and a wolf,"
"brother and his sister and a woodman" and "a kite made by a pig."
��� the studio also produced cartoon films including "sandocan", "child of
toromiro" and "narcota", each having 26 parts and the 14-part film "billy
the cat" in compliance with foreign orders. It began receiving foreign
orders and entering joint production with different countries of the world

television viewers as they boldly applied new diverse methods and styles of
description and skills to meet children's tastes and feelings.

known to the world.

Flunkeyism, main obstacle to reunification
��� Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- Flunkeyism and dependence on foreign
forces lay nothing but an obstacle in the way of national unity and
reunification and create confrontation and tensions between the north and
the south, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article. Dependence on
outside forces makes it impossible to solve the problem concerning the
destiny of a nation in conformity with its demand and interests, it says,
and goes on:
��� If it had not been for the U.S. obstructions, the Korean nation would
long ago have achieved national unity and reunification, development and
prosperity.
��� Flunkeyism and dependence on outsiders are an anti-national and
anti-reunification action of doing harm to fellow countrymen in league with
foreign forces while being hostile to them.
��� Through the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration the north and
the south firmly promised that they would independently solve the issue of
national reunification with the concerted efforts of the Korean nation.
��� But the anti-reunification conservatives in South Korea are laying a
grave obstacle in the way of independent national reunification with
flunkeyism and dependence on outsiders, disparaging the spirit of national
independence specified in the joint declaration.
��� National independence is the only way the Korean nation should go.

Japan's intensified moves for overseas aggression assailed
��� Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- Japan's "security" and "international
contribution" on the lips of the Japanese militarists are nothing but a
reversed slogan of aggression and a rigmarole of war, says Rodong Sinmun
today in a signed article. It is the Japanese militarists' trick to step up
war preparations while pretending to be deeply interested in "peace", the
article says, citing the following facts to prove it:
��� The words and deeds of the Japanese chief executive who visited the
"Yasukuni Shrine" in August last are enough to prove that Japan is working
hard for preparations for participation in war under the cloak of "peace."
��� Koizumi's junket to the U.S. after his taking office was aimed at paving
the way for reinvasion with the powerful support of the U.S.
��� His junket was followed by unprecedented Japan-U.S. cooperation in the
military field and joint military actions.
��� In July the Japan maritime "Self-Defense Force" held a special
mine-sweeping exercise with the U.S. navy.
��� In August Japan test-fired a large carrier-rocket "H-2A" and conducted a
general fire drill.
��� Following the self-sacrificing air attacks on the U.S. on Sept. 11, the
Japanese ruling quarters passed an "anti-terrorism special bill" through the
diet under the pretext of "support for the U.S."
��� The article 9 of the Japan's "peace constitution" symbolic of a "peace
state" has now become invalid.
��� The Japanese reactionaries distorted even the past history of the
Japanese imperialists' aggression in history textbooks for the rising
generations in a bid to imbue them with the idea of aggression and war
consciousness and drive them out as a shock brigade for overseas aggression.
��� For regional peace and security the Asian people should never allow
Japan's moves to become a military power and reinvade but should check them.
