Vietnamese dissidents jailed after unrest =========================== A court in Vietnam has jailed seven members of an ethnic minority group for their part in anti-government protests earlier in the year. They were sent to prison for between six and 11 years. The Vietnamese news agency said the court was told the group had organised demonstrations by thousands of people in the province of Daklak in February. They had been demanding an independent state, and were linked to exiled Vietnamese in America. Security was stepped up in the region to combat the unrest - the worst in Vietnam for years. Hundreds of people fled in its wake - more than 30 were eventually allowed to resettle in the US, a move which angered the government in Hanoi. >From the newsroom of the BBC World Service
