THIS IS NOT "AGAIN." THIS IS SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

It is not a fake war. It is a real one and it is indeed about the
"geostrategic"position of Afganistan. Remember that Brzezinsky wrote (in The
Grand Chessboard) that there were only "20 more years" left to take control
of "Eurasia."

(So US/UK militarist-capitalists needed to act within those 20 years, before
the populations of Eurasia had time to organize Marxist Lenisint cadres.
For only such revolutionaries could successfully organize to resist the
armed and manipulative religious fundamentalists that the US/Britian needs
to accomplish their imperial designs)

The Bush administration thinks it has all those flags waving for war, and
that there will be casualties which will be acceptable to the newly
"Patriotic" US population.

The US has found the "unsavory characters" with whom they can now deal
openly
and with whom the CIA operated before, in the successful destruction of
Revolutionary Marxist Afghanistan. (STOPNATO has now circulated the
information of US duplicity as Brzezinsky reported in his Nouvel Observater
interview in undermining the Revolution in Afghanistan, which Bill Blum
notes
in his book Rogue State (Common Courage Press, 2000).

The bastards are even saying how the "northern alliance" is trying to reform
Afghanistan, The scoundrels the US is supporting are thugs, opium
traffickers, and war lords, despised by the Afghani people, according to the
New York Times of October 7.

September 11 may have hastened the US into the military confrontation ahead
of schedule, but the plan was to go it "largely alone" without NATO, without
Germany, without Europe taking any of the potential resources the US wishes
to grab for its own, with the Brits (and their "historical experience" as
one
CNN reporter intoned yesterday ,") as partners in the crime. (Their
historical experience was failure and imperialism and oppression, but no one
mentioned that.)

Yes, it's war, and the WTC and Pentagon attacks just justified the action,
Look at the maps we are shown again and again. There is (oil rich) Xinjiang
Province at the end of that narrow northeastern corridor through Afghanistan
to China. There is Afghanistan keeping the primary hold geographically
between the former USSR and China, on "top" of the Middle East. The US wants
it, and Britain does too. There are Turkey and Pakistan, US partners,
supporting the invasion, (though nervous, their populations not very
supportive). But then the whole Middle east is not very supportive. Saudi
Arabia is afraid of its own population!

But it remains to be seen whether this grand plan will be achieved. Pro-war
frenzy is going to dry up fast. Not just because of the casualties, but
because of the economy. Military spending may increase, but it was already
high. It won't solve the world capitalist crisis, nor indeed the US's grave
and present economic contraction, as WW II did. That's because it isn't
going
to be able to go from "0 to 60" in 10 seconds.

When WW II jump-started the US economy in 1940-41 the US had a very small
military budget and then Roosevelt ordered massive deficit spending to
develop the Military Industrial Complex in the first place! But now, the US
has a huge amount of military spending, and even doubling it will not save
the economy. AND THE GOVERNMENT CAN'T AFFORD TO DOUBLE IT.

So the economy is fading, layoffs are accelerating, no one is running up
their credit cards, and the US taxpayers have been told that they have to
bail out the insurance industry for the WTC insurance claims. So now, even
if
military Keynesianism is further involved to pay for this new war, it won't
deliver enough to punch up the US economy.

And there's an antiwar movement out there already. 1000 people were in the
ANSWER demonstration at Union Square yesterday afternoon and the crowd grew
to several thousand (one organizer said 12,000 on the phone, but no one
verified that) when it marched to Times Square.

This antiwar movement has elements in it that understand capitalism and
imperialism. Key elements, unlike the "Out now" antiwar in Vietnam movement.
Though the anti-globalization movement has gone quiescent out there, there
are still millions who understand the role of the IMF and the World Bank in
oppressing billions of people in the Third World.

The incredible irony about all of these development is that the
anti-Globalization activists may have hated capitalism, but there were many
of them, especially in the US who didn't understand the military
underpinning
of imperialism, how death by starvation and imperialist exploitation was
bolstered by military power.

Well, now they know, and though there is a retreat of Left forces because of
the temporary setback to the anti-globalist movement, the next wave will be
more politically aware of the true nature of 21st Century imperialism.

One of my students rephrased the song "War." She mused, "War, what is it
good
for?/ Obviously something."
