The website www.iraradio.com was run by John McDonagh, who broadcast a weekly radio programme called Radio Free Eireann. The site's owner, Travis Towle, says the FBI has asked the internet service provider to close down or risk having its assets seized as a backer of terrorism. Mr McDonagh says his broadcasts would go on, and claimed IRA stood for Irish Republican Activist, and that he had no connection to the Real IRA. John McDonagh says: "If I was running a Taliban web site 15 years ago, I would be considered a patriot helping the American cause. Today, I would be considered a traitor. It is getting to be difficult to predict who the government is going to call a terrorist." Despite Mr McDonagh's claim that he would go on broadcasting, a statement on the web site said Mr Towle's Cosmic Entertainment Group had shut it down. The statement adds: "We do not and will not support terrorism of any kind anywhere. "This web site is for Irish news and media coverage with regard to the ongoing British presence in the occupied six counties of Ireland with a view toward correcting misrepresentations." The Real IRA is banned from raising funds in America and anyone found giving them cash can be prosecuted and jailed.
