Foreign Minister Robin Cook and his much-touted 'ethical foreign policy' may have been discarded, but the humanitarian bullsh*t hasn't missed a beat. And Clare Short.... Britain denies civilian casualties in Afghanistan LONDON, Oct 12 (AFP) - Britain's International Development Secretary Clare Short on Friday denied Taliban reports that the US-led bombing campaign in Afghanistan had killed hundreds of innocent civilians. "Clearly there is propaganda being fed out... distorting what is taking place and claims of casualties that are not true," she said. Short qualified her remarks by quoting information and humanitarian networks on the ground in Afghanistan. "Information moves across the borders in and out and there are refugees and families, and it is widely understood amongst Afghanistan refugees that there have not been civilian casualties," she said. Taliban officials said Thursday that an afternoon raid on the village of Kadam in eastern Afghanistan had left more than 200 people dead and accused Washington of deliberately targeting civilians. US officials rejected the latter claim and said it was impossible to verify whether civilians had been killed by stray missiles or bombs. The casualties reported by the Taliban bring to more than 300 the number of civilians the regime says have been killed since the air campaign began. Only four of these deaths have been independently confirmed and the Taliban's restrictions on journalists moving around the country make verification of their claims virtually impossible.
