A military spokesman said a naval patrol had intercepted a flotilla of rebel boats and at least two of the ten rebel vessels were destroyed. The navy said one of its ratings and about twenty-five Tamil Tiger rebels were killed in the battle, nearly 35km off the coast of the rebel-controlled district of Mullaitivu. There has been no comment from the Tamil Tigers.
