(President. AICWF/CITU) has jointly issued the following statement. The Joint Meeting convened by the Union Coal Minister on 25th November 2001 to consider the issues pertaining to the Strike Notice served by AITUC, BMS, CITU and HMS unions in coal industry could not come to any conclusion due to the attitude of the Government of India not to concede any demand out of the 16 point charter of demands. The representatives of the unions demanded that the minimum demands of the workers viz., withdrawal of the Bill on privatisation of the coal mining sector, full payment of arrears before December 2001 and restructuring of Coal India Ltd as unitary company must at least be considered by the Govt. Shri Rambilas Paswan, Union Coal Minister expressed his inability to accept these minimum proposals. We therefore call upon the six lakh coal mine workers all over the country to observe three day strike from 3rd to 5th December 2001 and express protest against the policies of the Government of India and press for 16 point charter of demands. eom |
